While BTS's V participated as the starting pitcher for the Los Angeles Dodgers, he had a video call with Major Leaguer Kim Hye-sung.
On the 26th (Korea time), a video was uploaded to the official Los Angeles Dodgers Instagram with a message stating, "Kim Hye-sung said he couldn't meet his favorite artist today and greeted him via FaceTime." This is the FaceTime video that V had with Kim Hye-sung before throwing the first pitch.
Kim Hye-sung, seeing V on screen, said, "Hello, I'm a fan," and V responded, "Oh, I'm honored as well," and asked, "So you couldn't come today because of an injury?" Kim Hye-sung replied, "Yes, that's right. I really wanted to go," and V said, "I wish we could have met once."
Kim Hye-sung is currently receiving injury treatment in Oklahoma and could not meet V in person. He informed, "I think I will come around this weekend or next week," and V said, "When you come to LA next time, let's be sure to meet then." In response, Kim Hye-sung said, "Really? Thank you," smiling broadly.
On that day, V took the mound as the starting pitcher in the game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Cincinnati Reds held at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, California. When he appeared wearing a Los Angeles Dodgers uniform, the stadium was filled with cheering fans. As BTS's hit song "MIC Drop" echoed in the hall, V threw a wonderful first pitch with a bright smile.
V told Kim Hye-sung, "Next time, let's definitely meet together. I will throw hard. I originally wanted to learn, but I've never had the chance, so I wanted to learn from you, the player," to which Kim Hye-sung replied, "I can teach you anytime next time." In closing, V said, "I will do well today," clenching his fist, and Kim Hye-sung also said, "I will watch over you," cheering him on.
That day, V energetically shouted the Los Angeles Dodgers' signature catchphrase, "It's time for Dodger baseball!" which heated up the atmosphere of the event. This phrase was used by legendary Major League broadcaster Vin Scully to announce the start of Los Angeles Dodgers games. V cleverly shouted this out, turning Dodger Stadium into a frenzy.
The broadcasters noted, "V is a global sensation. As soon as the starting pitcher news was announced, ticket sales skyrocketed, and thanks to this, a really large crowd gathered at the stadium," praising V as "an undisputed mega star," emphasizing his global brand power. Regarding his pitching control, they said, "He threw a fantastic breaking ball. It's enough to say, 'Let's sign him right away.'"
After finishing the first pitch, V said through his agency, "I watched a Los Angeles Dodgers game with my members at the beginning of my debut. Coming back here after a long time brought back those memories, and it was fun. I enjoyed throwing the first pitch in a place filled with memories from the early days of my debut. If another good opportunity comes, I would like to learn more properly and pitch again. I sincerely thank the ARMY and baseball fans for their warm support."
