Can 'Homecam', which features reality-based themes, cool down the late summer heat?
On the afternoon of the 26th, a press screening for the film 'Homecam' was held at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall in Seoul. The event was attended by lead actors Yoon Se-ah, Yoon Byeol-ha, Kwon Hyuk, and director Oh Se-ho.
'Homecam' (director Oh Se-ho, provided and distributed by Studio Santa Claus Entertainment, produced by M Pictures, co-produced by A Cut) portrays the intense 24-hour horror experienced by insurance investigator Seong-hee (played by Yoon Se-ah) who witnesses a stranger through a homecam installed in her house while investigating a mysterious death.
In the era of one homecam per household, the combination of 'homecam + ghost' offers a twist where the homecam installed for security purposes acts as a medium for spreading fear, delivering dense thrills and enjoyment. The film maximizes immersion by fully utilizing various features of the homecam, such as voice recognition, motion detection, and night mode, transitioning between footage captured by the homecam and typical movie shots.
Yoon Se-ah, known for her elegant presence and distinctive characters in hits such as 'Sky Castle' and the 'Forest of Secrets' series, leads the film as the terrified insurance investigator Seong-hee. Young actress Yoon Byeol-ha plays the role of Seong-hee's ailing daughter Ji-woo, showcasing a mother-daughter chemistry with Yoon Se-ah. The mysterious neighbor Su-rim, who lingers around Seong-hee's house, is played by Kwon Hyuk, who is recognized for his roles in 'Sorry Not Sorry', 'Law of the City', 'Tyrant', and 'Royal Loader', enhancing the film's genre appeal.
Regarding her participation, Yoon Se-ah said, "The script was very entertaining, and it portrayed my character Seong-hee beyond just the supernatural phenomena." She added, "I was excited to meet with the director for consultations, sharing ideas and even getting into movement together; it was so engaging that I felt like I was on fire about it. I am very grateful for this project."
Yoon Se-ah stated, "The movie production was done sequentially and went smoothly. Since it was a role that needed to flow with the scenes, I didn't miss a beat. I didn't think it was too hard or that I had to take the lead. It was more enjoyable to film than I expected." She recalled, "Although this is not my first horror film, I was so scared that I genuinely screamed. There were many props and mechanisms to frighten me, which surprised me so much that we had to take a short break during filming, but it was an enjoyable experience," she smiled.
Young actress Yoon Byeol-ha commented, "I wanted to take on this challenge because I feel that performing such difficult acting at my age would help me grow a step." Her mature response impressed her senior Yoon Se-ah.
Kwon Hyuk said, "I'm not the type who enjoys horror movies like Se-ah. However, I got the offer knowing that Se-ah was involved, so I participated and had a great time filming."
There is a saying that if you see a ghost on the horror film set, it will be a hit, to which the director recalled, "During the filming of 'Homecam', we filmed a lot. There were many scenes I shot myself. When I tried to control it by connecting via Wi-Fi while running 3-4 at the same time, it was strange. The recording button wouldn't work, and I wondered if it was a Wi-Fi issue. Even after I installed a new router, the homecam would turn off whenever we filmed ghost scenes. The staff would be like, 'What's going on? It's scary!'. There were moments like that," he shared.
Kwon Hyuk shared a similar experience, saying, "During the filming of a shaman scene, I had a severe headache. I thought it was a little tough during the shoot, but a teacher who was advising on the shaman role was present on set. They came over and asked me, 'Are you feeling dizzy right now? Are you okay?' When I asked how they knew, they said it seemed that something had just passed by for a moment." He continued, "Suddenly, they told me to sit down and placed their hand on my back, sending chills down from my head to my toes. They said, 'Aren't you feeling better now?' It was an incredible experience that made me wonder if ghosts actually exist."
In conclusion, the director remarked, "I am grateful to be able to film and release a movie during such a difficult time. The entire production team and cast have prepared meticulously so that the audience won't be disappointed. Honestly, I'm quite nervous today. I really hope to meet everyone in theaters," while Yoon Se-ah added, "We worked very hard to make an engaging and entertaining horror film, and I hope it will generate a lot of discussion among many people. I ask for your great anticipation and love."
Meanwhile, 'Homecam' is set to release on September 10.
