The 82nd Venice International Film Festival's institutional sector invitation and the opening film of the 30th Busan International Film Festival, 'No Other Choice', has released its third poster and director's cut video.
'No Other Choice' depicts the story of 'Mansu' (Lee Byung-hun), an office worker who felt satisfied with life as if he had 'achieved everything', but after being abruptly laid off, prepares for his own war toward re-employment to protect his wife and two children and the home he has worked hard to keep. The third poster released captures various moments from the film in illustrations, drawing attention.
The poster features a heartwarming moment of 'Mansu' dancing in the yard with 'Miri' (Son Ye-jin) at its center, while his busy figure dressed in a mysterious work uniform, over his suit, is seen in various places, sparking curiosity.
The son 'Sihwan', looking down at 'Mansu' from the greenhouse roof, and the daughter 'Ri-won', sitting in front of the dog house, along with two dog companions under the apple tree, remind 'Mansu' of what he must protect while preparing for his own war. Additionally, 'Seon-chul' (Park Hee-soon), who is on a currency call, and the couple 'Beom-mo' (Lee Seong-min) and 'Ah-ra' (Yeom Hye-ran) enjoying a picnic, as well as 'Sijoo' (Cha Seung-won) standing against the backdrop of rough waves, are each unique characters that capture attention and foreshadow unpredictable developments.
The director's cut video released alongside features director Park Chan-wook stating, 'It's a movie about observing how a man who was living well gets pulled down into darker places to return to his original life', which piques curiosity. He continues to express admiration for Lee Byung-hun's portrayal of 'Mansu', saying, 'He has so many expressions, and not only can he pull them out perfectly when needed, but he can also change quickly.' Regarding Son Ye-jin as 'Miri', he noted, 'I thought again, "She's really professional."' This raises expectations for the powerful performances of the actors with strong acting chops.
Moreover, about Park Hee-soon playing 'Seon-chul', he expressed, 'I hoped to portray a character with significant ups and downs, who shouts and has a lively side.' Lee Seong-min, playing 'Beom-mo', mentioned, 'Having experience in exaggerated acting without hesitation, I did so boldly this time as well,' adding to the curiosity about their unique representations. Additionally, regarding Yeom Hye-ran as 'Ah-ra', he stated, 'I was confident from the beginning.' Cha Seung-won, portraying 'Sijoo', expressed, 'I thought it would be interesting to act in a subservient manner, contrasting my strong impression,' indicating the intense performances of actors who will add a distinct presence to the film.
'Lastly, director Park Chan-wook mentioned, 'The first question Lee Byung-hun asked after reading the script was, "Can I make it funny?" My answer was, "The funnier, the better."' This suggests that the ironic humor added to the gripping survival drama will provide a special enjoyment for the audience.
'No Other Choice', which has released its third poster and director's cut video, is expected to captivate theaters in September with its rich visual offerings.
With a noteworthy combination of trusted actors, dramatic developments, beautiful mise-en-scène, solid direction, and dark comedy, director Park Chan-wook's new film 'No Other Choice' is set to be released on Sept. 24.
