Singer Jang Yoon-jeong accepted the apology of KBS announcer Kim Jin-woong, who treated her husband, Do Kyung-wan, as his 'sub'.
On the 24th, KBS 2TV's entertainment program "Boss's ears are donkey ears" (abbreviated as "Sadanggui") featured announcer Kim Jin-woong meeting with a marriage information company. At the meeting, he stated, "I cannot live like my senior Do Kyung-wan," adding, "It may possibly be rude to my senior, but I cannot live as someone's sub," which sparked controversy.
Do Kyung-wan, a former KBS announcer, is the husband of Jang Yoon-jeong, known as the 'Trot Queen.' This couple, often referred to as the 'Do-Jang couple,' received public support as Do Kyung-wan comforted Jang Yoon-jeong during difficult times due to family issues and showcased their happiness after marriage. They became a national family by revealing their lives raising two children, Yeon-woo and Ha-young, through KBS 2TV's entertainment program "The Return of Superman."
Among this, announcer Kim Jin-woong referred to Do Kyung-wan as 'Jang Yoon-jeong's sub.' Of course, Do Kyung-wan has previously downplayed himself, describing Jang Yoon-jeong, the 'Trot Queen,' as someone with superior wealth and talent compared to him in several entertainments. However, there was a dominant criticism that the remarks from a junior he has no acquaintance with crossed the line.
Jang Yoon-jeong also reacted strongly. Right after the broadcast of "Sadanggui," she wrote on her personal SNS, "We are not on friendly terms... Hehe... Words or actions that cannot make the other party laugh cannot be packaged as 'jokes' or 'games.' There is no 'sub' within family." Although she did not specifically mention Kim Jin-woong, she expressed her displeasure by refuting his remarks.
Eventually, announcer Kim Jin-woong also apologized. On the 25th, he posted a lengthy apology on his personal SNS, stating, "I apologize for causing concern to Do Kyung-wan and Jang Yoon-jeong with my careless remarks. I sincerely apologize for any discomfort caused to the viewers and fans." He also stated, "Due to my lack of experience, I acted impulsively and carelessly. Especially, senior Do Kyung-wan had always taken care of me warmly since my time in the regional service, yet I caused significant trouble."
Moreover, Kim Jin-woong reportedly reached out directly to Jang Yoon-jeong to express his apology. Jang Yoon-jeong stated again on SNS, "I received a text from an unknown number conveying his apology. It must have taken courage to apologize, and considering that feeling, I think I should accept it." She also stated, "I appreciate everyone who empathized with my post and comforted my upset heart. I won't say much more. I hope happiness and luck are on your side in the future," thus concluding the matter with her magnanimous acceptance of Kim Jin-woong's apology.
Nevertheless, criticism aimed at Kim Jin-woong continues unabated. Since Kim Jin-woong has not hidden his ambition to be the 'post Jun Hyun-moo' as the only male announcer among the KBS announcers on "Sadanggui," his hasty remarks are particularly regrettable.
Even during the filming of "Sadanggui," his announcer senior Eom Ji-in also chastised Kim Jin-woong, saying, "Why is Do Kyung-wan a sub?" Singer Lee Ji-hye, who appeared as a studio panelist, stated, "If Kim Jin-woong's ideal type is actress Kim Goeun and aespa's Karina, then if such a person is his ideal type, he cannot live as a 'sub.'" It remains to be seen if we will continue to see the ambitious Kim Jin-woong as a runaway character on "Sadanggui" and whether even his apology letter and self-reflection will be included in the broadcast.
