The movie "My Daughter is a Zombie" has become the first film released this year to surpass 5 million cumulative viewers.
On the 25th, the production company of "My Daughter is a Zombie" (directed by Phil Gam-sung, provided/distributed by NEW, produced by Studio N) announced that as of 7 p.m. on the 24th, just 26 days after its release, it attracted 5,168,000 viewers according to the Korean Film Council's integrated cinema database. The total number of viewers attracted by the night of the 24th was 5,006,254.
This is the first domestic release this year to surpass 5 million viewers. Additionally, it is the long-awaited news of 5 million viewers that has come about 11 months after the release of the film "Veteran 2" last year. It also surpassed the record of 4,718,036 viewers set by last year's summer blockbuster "Pilot" and did so faster than the 36 days taken by "Smuggling," the highest-grossing film of summer 2023.
"My Daughter is a Zombie" set a record for the highest pre-sale volume among Korean films this year, and it also recorded the highest opening of any Korean comedy film in history. Moreover, "My Daughter is a Zombie" outperformed Hollywood blockbusters like "F1 The Movie" and "Mission Impossible: Final Reckoning" to claim the title of the highest-grossing film this year. It continues to break records, having held the top position at the box office for 23 consecutive days, the longest duration this year.
