"Divorce and separation rumors? We're just a weekend couple and get together for the kids." Former S.E.S member Shyu (real name Yoo Soo-young) spoke directly about the divorce and separation rumors with her husband Lim Hyo-sung. However, the controversy sparked by sudden remarks in the video was ultimately deleted in editing, while her honest feelings caught attention.
Earlier, on 15th, a video titled "Shyu has returned (Why did she come back after 8 years?)" was released on the YouTube channel "Human That's Shyu." At the end of the video, Shyu and Lim Hyo-sung appeared together, having an honest conversation about the rumors of discord, separation, and divorce surrounding the couple.
Shyu cautiously started by saying, "The word couple is quite burdensome. Do we really think of ourselves as a couple?" Lim Hyo-sung responded meaningfully, saying, "After 4 years of married life and 11 years of friendship, we're just like strangers now." Shyu remarked, "I think of you as a friend, so we hardly argue," to which Lim Hyo-sung added, "Even if you bring it up, I'm trying to avoid conflict."
However, during the conversation, Shyu unexpectedly asked, "Don't you have a good girlfriend these days?" This surprised both the audience and Lim Hyo-sung. Lim Hyo-sung couldn't hide his shock, exclaiming, "Are you crazy? Are you a psycho?" Shyu continued jokingly, saying, "Can't I ask? How nice would it be, in an American style?" This remark sparked significant debate among viewers immediately after it was made public and was ultimately removed in subsequent edits, leading to the 'deleted ending.'
In the actual video, as it was anticipated how it would be presented, the full version released on the 22nd ultimately had the controversial 'girlfriend remark' deleted. However, the honest conversation about the divorce and separation rumors was fully captured. Shyu said, "If we really divorced, who would raise the kids? Who would pay for child support? We'd have to live far apart, right? But we are still together for the kids."
Lim Hyo-sung also stated, "It's not that we can't agree but that the kids are more important," adding, "I'm a family option. We had 4 years of marriage and 11 years of friendship. Back then, we loved each other, but now it's different. I was nice then, but now I've become a devil," he said with a smile, revealing his realistic feelings. He continued to emphasize, "Everyone has many differences and frustrations, but thinking of the kids, it's not easy to make a decision."
At the same time, the two essentially summarized the separation rumors as being in a weekend couple format. Lim Hyo-sung explained, "I've been living separately for work for about 3 to 4 years. There are no fixed rules, but I come on Fridays or Saturdays for a night or two, then return to my own place alone," noting that their daily life isn't significantly different from others, honestly revealing what had previously been only rumor about divorce and separation, which has now become a hot topic.
Meanwhile, Shyu and Lim Hyo-sung married in 2010 and have one son and two daughters. In 2018, Shyu was sentenced to six months in prison, followed by two years of probation for habitual gambling but has since been working as an ambassador for gambling prevention since 2022. Lim Hyo-sung has also drawn attention by revealing that he paid off Shyu's gambling debts worth hundreds of millions of won during their separation.
