In 'The Glory,' Jung Sung-il, who has captivated viewers as Ha Do-young and risen as a popular actor, reflected on his time in obscurity.
On the 22nd, he appeared on MBN's 'Jun Hyun-moo Plan 2' as a 'food friend,' depicting his journey to Daebu Island with Jun Hyun-moo and Kwak Tube.
Jung Sung-il, noted for his remarkable appetite, which stood out among all the participants on 'Jun Hyun-moo Plan,' was asked by Jun Hyun-moo about his acting career.
Jung Sung-il's acting career began at 21 when he dropped out of college and headed to Seoul's Daehangno with no plan. He endured a long period of obscurity driven solely by his passion for acting. He revealed, "I did theater for a long time, about five years from the age of 21," and maintained his living through various part-time jobs while keeping a presence on the theater stage.
Jung Sung-il mainly worked in driving-related jobs and disclosed that he tried almost every part-time job, including working as a designated driver and valet, opening a café in the morning to manage parking, and working at a wine bar in the evening. In his early 30s, he pondered, "Can I do this just because I like it? Can I make a living?" However, he realized that "I wouldn't have been able to do anything else but acting," affirming that acting was his true path.
As if to compensate for his long period of obscurity, Jung Sung-il made a significant impression on the public through the Netflix series 'The Glory.' Though he garnered great love for his role as 'Ha Do-young' and rose to become a popular actor, he had to work harder for his living because even after receiving the settlement, it wasn't a substantial amount. He surprised many by stating that he continued to do "Coupang delivery part-time" even after the release of 'The Glory.'
Jung Sung-il has been driven by his passion for acting until now. He expressed, "I wonder if I could have done anything else besides acting. I think I would have returned after taking a break. This seems to be the only thing for me," revealing his firm belief.
