In 'Brave Detectives 4,' a horrifying crime that violated the natural order was depicted, showcasing its thorough investigation until resolution.
On the 22nd, the 48th episode of the T-Cast E Channel's 'Brave Detectives 4' (directed by Lee Ji-seon) featured Incheon Bupyeong Police Station Criminal Division Chief Lee Kwang-hee and former Police Commissioner Yoon Oe-chul of the Scientific Investigation Team (KCSI), along with Police Inspector Kim Jin-soo, who grants a record of the case they personally resolved. 'Soccer legend' Kim Nam-il continued as a guest from last week.
The first case introduced that day began with an urgent call stating, 'My father has collapsed on the veranda and is not breathing.' The victim found at the scene was discovered lying on the ground with bruises and contusions all over his body. The son claimed his father had frequently fallen due to the aftereffects of a stroke, but signs emerged that suggested it was not a simple accident. Upon touching the victim's chest, broken ribs emitted a crunching sound.
The father and son lived on the second floor, and the son made the absurd claim that his father jumped off the veranda window to pick up a cigarette butt from the street. There was even evidence that suggested the father was locked up with a bolt on the front door. The autopsy revealed that the victim had suffered 23 fractures, including broken ribs and chest bones, and had internal organ injuries. Severe assault from punches and kicks was suspected.
The son was a former boxer who had given up his career due to injuries and was living with his father while receiving living expenses from his mother. He claimed, 'Why would I hit my father?' asserting that he had been taking care of him and conducting rehabilitation exercises, even presenting photos, but it was revealed that the photos were taken the night before the crime, which instead supported the allegations. Analysis of CCTV footage showed that the only person who entered and exited the house after the father was known to be alive was the son. Ultimately, the charge was changed from manslaughter to murder, and he was sentenced to 10 years in prison for the crime of filicide. A unanimous guilty verdict was reached by the jury, but the fact that he cohabited to care for his father was taken into consideration.
Next, KCSI covered the 'Sorae Village Infanticide Case,' which had attracted the attention of both domestic and international media. Thanks to scientific investigation, the suspect was quickly identified, allowing the case to be solved in a short period. This shocking event reverberated not only in Korea but across the globe. The incident began with an urgent call to the Bangbae Police Station duty room, reporting that two infant bodies had been discovered at a colleague's residence. The discoverer was a French man who found the bodies while trying to store mackerel in the freezer and reported the incident via his colleague. The bodies were found in a five-tiered freezer drawer, still with their umbilical cords, and were presumed to have been killed shortly after birth.
This house was inhabited by a French couple and their children. The husband was an engineer working for a foreign company in Korea. At that time, the wife, who was in France, denied any knowledge, stating it was 'unknown,' and the husband claimed that his wife had undergone a hysterectomy and could not become pregnant. However, the scientific investigation team confirmed through DNA that he was indeed the father of the infants. Additionally, it was confirmed that the wife had undergone surgery due to an infection after childbirth. Ultimately, the scientific investigation team established that the infants were the biological children of the couple. Although the couple and the French investigation team doubted the results, they acknowledged their carelessness when the same results emerged in France. The incident turned out to be solely the wife's crime.
The wife was found to have killed and stored the infants in the freezer immediately after giving birth in 2002 and 2003, and it was revealed she had committed the same crime in 1997 before entering Korea. It was a gruesome act that resulted in the deaths of three infants. She was diagnosed with denial of pregnancy syndrome, causing those around her not to notice her pregnancy. Missing the period for abortion led her to commit the crime, claiming it was not a baby but rather a part of her body that she killed. The denial of pregnancy syndrome was acknowledged, resulting in an 8-year sentence, and she was paroled after four years on the condition of not contacting the media. A similar case that occurred domestically was also disclosed, where a woman killed and stored her infants in a freezer after childbirth in 2018 and 2019. She claimed to have committed the crime due to financial difficulties while raising three children and was sentenced to 8 years in prison.
'Brave Detectives 4' airs every Friday at 9:50 p.m. and is also available on major OTT platforms such as Netflix, Tving, and Wavve.
