Dr. Oh Eun-young from 'My Precious Child' revealed that the fifth child, Geumjok, has Tourette syndrome.
In the episode broadcasted on the 22nd, Channel A's 'Nowadays Parenting - My Precious Child' showcased the story of 'parents disappearing every night and seven foul-mouthed siblings,' and a couple appeared in the studio.
The fifth among the 'seven siblings' was Geumjok. Geumjok began cursing while playfully teasing a younger sibling. Ignoring his brother's warning and his mother's discipline, Geumjok continued cursing as if not paying attention.
Shinae asked, "When did this start?" and the mother replied, "It started in kindergarten. And it got worse after the sixth child was born." The father explained, "It's funny that when he doesn't know someone, he becomes very kind. Teachers mentioned that he was a really nice student at school, just in case they asked."
Dr. Oh Eun-young analyzed, "Geumjok's problem is that he curses a lot. Cursing is closely related to language development. The child needs to express emotions using a variety of words. If he doesn't acquire that variety, he will curse when it rains, when water gets wet, or when he is hungry. He will express all his feelings with curses even in normal situations."
Geumjok even displayed odd behaviors such as talking to himself and cursing while watching TV. Upon seeing this, Dr. Oh Eun-young stated that Geumjok has "Tourette syndrome." He said, "It is much more chronic than tic disorders," adding, "Unknowingly, his muscles contract, causing his shoulders to shrug and his head to turn."
Regarding the cursing behavior, he continued, "It's called a vocal tic; sudden outbursts of curse words are considered tics. You should see it as a Tourette symptom. It's not a matter of changing habits or behaviors, but something that suddenly occurs. It's unrelated to will. How much distress must he be in?"
