It has been a year since the late Lee Joo-hyung, a director known for shows like "New Journey to the West" and "Three Meals a Day", passed away in a traffic accident on his way home after working late.
The late Lee Joo-hyung died in an accident on Aug. 22, 2024, at midnight, while returning home after completing overtime work. He was 35 years old.
While departing from work, the late Lee Joo-hyung's taxi collided successively with a parked tour bus and a small car that was moving on World Cup Road toward the World Cup Stadium from Guryong Intersection around 12:25 a.m. The late Lee Joo-hyung was reported to have died at the scene of the accident. It was particularly tragic as the late Lee Joo-hyung was said to be expecting his first child.
The taxi driver involved in the accident suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital, while the driver of the small car was not in critical condition, and the bus was in an off-service state with no passengers. The taxi driver at the time of the incident was charged with a violation of the Special Act on Traffic Accidents (manslaughter) and was sent in without detention.
The late Lee Joo-hyung, who joined CJ ENM as a director in 2016, directed "Three Meals a Day - Gochang Edition", "New Journey to the West" Seasons 2 and 3, "The Great Escape 4", "Korean Monster", "Accidentally Adult", and "Comedy Big League". The late Lee Joo-hyung, who moved to the video production company Borderless Film acquired by Coupang Play, participated in the sports documentary "Full Count" that aired on Disney+.
In response to the late Lee Joo-hyung's untimely death, Na Young-seok, Shin Hyo-jung, Park Hyun-yong, Yoon In-hwa, and six other directors from "New Journey to the West" stated, "Lee Joo-hyung was a diligent junior who took immense responsibility for his work and always did his best until the end. He was always the first to turn on the lights, and we will remember his place where he carefully checked and organized everything needed for the program. We were glad to have had the opportunity to do "New Journey to the West" with Lee Joo-hyung."
