Actress Kim Tae-hee of 'Butterfly' expressed her husband's support, singer and actor Rain (Jung Ji-hoon), for her first entry into a global series.
The production team of the Amazon Prime original series 'Butterfly' held a press conference on the morning of the 21st at CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall in Yongsan, Seoul. Attending this event were the main cast, including American actor Daniel Dae Kim, ReiNa Hardesty, and Korean actors Kim Ji-hoon and Kim Tae-hee, along with Sean Richard, who shared stories about the drama with domestic reporters under the hosting of broadcaster Park Kyung-rim.
'Butterfly' depicts the story of former U.S. intelligence officer David Jung (played by Daniel Dae Kim) and the current agent Rebecca (played by ReiNa Hardesty), who has been sent to kill him, in a tale of pursuit and evasion. Korean-American actor Daniel Dae Kim not only stars in the lead role but also serves as an executive producer, with the project based on the graphic novel of the same name by Arash Amel.
Focusing on the veiled figure 'David Jung', 'Butterfly' is set to present a thrilling character-driven espionage story that explores the complex emotions and conflicts among family members entangled in a global spy war. The cast includes Kim Ji-hoon, Park Hae-soo, Kim Tae-hee, ReiNa Hardesty, and Sean Richard, adding to expectations with its unique setting in Korea.
In particular, Kim Tae-hee takes on the role of Kim Eun-joo, David Jung's Korean wife. She noted, "The English acting part was very difficult. In fact, I practiced a lot. While I was practicing intensely at home, there were also challenging moments. The writer had completed all six episodes and came to Korea to observe the dialogue from the first scene to the last scene. If there were any better expressions, they would change them, and they worked very hard."
She continued, "My first filming was a scene in the first episode where I was on the phone with Daniel. That scene had to be entirely in English, and I had practiced so much that when they changed one or two lines, it became very difficult. If it had been in Korean, it wouldn't have been such a tough task, but since I had memorized everything, it was really hard. Given that my native language is not English, I knew I couldn't perfectly replicate the pronunciation or intonation, so I focused on staying true to Eun-joo's emotions rather than the English pronunciation. I made an effort to immerse myself in that part."
Moreover, she shared her husband's reaction, who had previously ventured abroad, stating, "Since the moment I received this project, my husband has really supported and encouraged me a lot. He said it was such a great opportunity, so I should definitely do it. When I was hesitant about attending the New York premiere, even though I wasn't the main character, he told me to go for sure. It's an opportunity to promote both the drama and myself as Kim Tae-hee, and he has encouraged me to work hard from start to finish on this project. I am filming and promoting it with a relaxed and supportive mindset."
'Butterfly', produced as an original series for the American OTT platform Amazon Prime, will be broadcast in Korea via cable network tvN and streamed on Tving. It is scheduled to premiere on Friday, the 22nd, at 10:40 p.m. on tvN.
