Maggie Kang, director of the Netflix animated film 'K-Pop Demon Hunters' (hereinafter 'KDH'), grants an appearance on the tvN entertainment program 'You Quiz on the Block.'
According to the film industry on the 21st, director Kang, who visited Korea, completed filming for 'You Quiz on the Block' hosted by Yoo Jae-suk and Cho Sae-ho the previous day.
Director Kang is known to have discussed the behind-the-scenes story of the production process of 'KDH,' the impetus for directing, and her affection for Korean culture. The broadcast is scheduled for the 27th.
On the 20th, she also granted an appearance on the Arirang TV talk show 'K-Pop: The Next Chapter' with President Lee Jae-myung, introducing the background of incorporating Korean culture into animation.
Director Kang also visited the National Museum of Korea. On the 21st, she paid a visit to Yoo Hong-jun, the director of the National Museum of Korea, and toured the exhibition hall and a cultural goods store selling merchandise.
Director Yoo presented Kang with a 'magpie tiger badge' and a liability, while director Kang reciprocated by gifting a stuffed toy of the tiger character 'Duffy' from the movie.
'KDH' has gained worldwide popularity, leading to a sellout of items such as the 'magpie tiger badge' sold at the National Museum of Korea.
Director Kang stated that she plans to continue her work highlighting Korean culture as she took in various exhibition items and videos at the National Museum of Korea.
A first meeting schedule with actor Ahn Hyo-seop, who voiced the leader Jin-woo of the boy group 'Lion Boys' in 'KDH,' was also planned.
Ahn Hyo-seop communicated with director Kang online during the production of 'KDH' while recording in Korea. The two are expected to have their first face-to-face meeting revealed later through Netflix's original content.
After completing her schedule in Korea, director Kang is expected to return to Korea next month for the 'Global Media Conference.'
Maggie Kang, a Canadian of Korean descent, was born in Seoul and moved to Toronto, Canada, with her family at the age of 5.
After majoring in animation at Sheridan College in Canada, she worked as a story artist at DreamWorks, Blue Sky, Warner Brothers, and Illumination. 'KDH' is her first feature directorial work.
'KDH' was released as a Netflix original in June and topped the all-time box office for Netflix animated films, surpassing 20 million views each week two months after its release.
Among Netflix's all-time movies, it currently ranks second in cumulative views, closing the gap with the first-ranked 'Red Notice (2021).'
