The new tvN Monday-Tuesday drama "The Chairman Project," which will first air on September 15 (Monday) at 8:50 p.m., involves a mysterious chairman, a former legendary negotiator and current chicken restaurant owner, who navigates between unconventional methods and legality to solve cases and implement justice.
The character of the chairman, played by Han Seok-kyu, is a local chicken restaurant owner and a versatile troubleshooter who is summoned quickly whenever a conflict arises. He has the ability to read situations and an instinct that penetrates people's hearts, and he wraps up each conflict neatly, earning applause. Han Seok-kyu, who has portrayed weighty characters with serious performances, is already eagerly awaited as he brings this chairman to life.
Regarding his choice to participate in "The Chairman Project," Han Seok-kyu said, "The moment I read the script, my heart was moved." He noted, "It's not just a story about solving cases; it contains the warmth and humor between people, as well as realistic emotions." Additionally, he expressed affection, stating, "The way the chairman solves problems through negotiation felt fresh, and I was confident that the warmth and weight of the character would resonate with viewers, so I decided to participate without hesitation."
In particular, Han Seok-kyu expressed that this is his third collaboration with director Shin Kyung-soo, following "Deep-rooted Tree" and "The Hidden Room." Although they met again after ten years, he mentioned, "There are many moments of understanding just through eye contact on set," and he revealed his unique trust in director Shin Kyung-soo, saying, "He carefully guides the set so that actors can deeply immerse themselves in their characters."
On the first impression of the chairman, he commented, "I felt he was quite a unique person." He continued, "On the surface, he appears to be an ordinary chicken restaurant owner, but there is a depth that is not easily read. Even in a seemingly cheerful situation, he felt like someone hiding a heavy story somewhere," explaining, "That first impression has stayed in my memory for a long time."
Since this character has a twist, Han Seok-kyu put a lot of thought into expressing that charm. He revealed his meticulous preparation process, explaining, "To portray a character that appears easygoing but is sharp and multifaceted inside, I adapted my tone of dialogue, eye expressions, and even the way I fry the chicken to fit the chairman's style."
He also did not overlook detailed styling. "When I play the comfortable and friendly chicken restaurant owner, I wore soft-colored and textured clothing, and when I transformed into a negotiator, I chose a more sleek and neat style. Thanks to this, even just changing my clothes on set, everyone could instantly recognize, 'This is the chairman now, and this is the negotiator now,'" making us curious about the negotiating hero that he will portray.
