Although 30 years have passed since the passing of beloved actor the late Lim Seong-min, it still evokes deep emotions.
Lim Seong-min closed his eyes at the age of 39 after battling cirrhosis at Seoul Gangnam Sacred Heart Hospital on Aug. 20, 1995. Despite being diagnosed with chronic hepatitis five years before his death, he could not stop his work activities, and it is known that he ultimately left behind sad news as his condition worsened.
The deceased made his debut as a TBC 18th class talent in 1977 and began to gain recognition the following year through the drama "Until I Get Married." With his tall appearance and stable acting skills, he emerged as a representative actor of the 1980s and 1990s, especially gaining enthusiastic support from female fans. He was active on both the small and big screens with dramas "Silver Stream," "Conditions of Love," "Stormy Season," and films "Dream of an Undertaker," "The Praise of Death," and "I Desire What Is Forbidden to Me."
In 1986, he won the Best New Actor Award at the Baeksang Arts Awards for the film "Dream of an Undertaker" and solidified his career by winning the Best Actor Award at the Blue Dragon Film Awards in 1991 for "The Praise of Death." He also received excellence awards at the MBC Acting Awards, enjoying a peak in his career.
Tributes from colleagues in the entertainment industry continued. Actor Ahn Sung-ki expressed his longing in an interview with Cine 21, saying, "Park Joong-hoon and I sometimes talk about the early death of Lim Seong-min. 'If Seong-min were here, we would have been doing well, calling him brother,' he said. He was a really wonderful friend."
Kim Hae-sook, who worked alongside him in the drama "Confession," also recalled Lim Seong-min as a memorable actor in an interview with "Baek Ji-yeon's People Inside," stating, "It was very hard when that happened during the program. Even now, thinking about it, he was truly a precious person. He was very kind."
