MAMAMOO member Moonbyul invites listeners into her expanded musical world.
Moonbyul will release her fourth mini album 'laundri' on various music streaming sites at 6 p.m. today (20th). With each comeback, she actively contributes ideas across the entire album production process, showcasing her upgraded musical abilities, and this new album is also expected to reflect a deeper musical color as she participates in writing and composing.
Next is Moonbyul's Q&A ahead of the release of 'laundri'.
Q. You've returned with your fourth mini album 'laundri'. It's been about a year since your last comeback in Korea; how do you feel about the release?
A. It's really been exactly a year since the release of my first full album repackage 'Starlit of Twinkle: REPACKAGE'. While preparing for the album, I constantly thought about 'What kind of story should I convey?' and 'How can I expand my music?'. Perhaps that's why this album holds significant meaning for me, and I'm excited but also a bit nervous to finally share it. Since you've waited a long time, I've poured my heart into it, and I think I will be very happy if my fans enjoy it.
Q. 'laundri' is an album that uses the process of washing as a metaphor for various emotions. What inspired you to think of the concept of washing emotions, and what message did you want to convey through it?
A. I think emotions are like laundry that never dries in a person's life. While it would be great if only good things happened, sometimes bad things come too. Just as there can be lingering love and love that ends cleanly, we experience various moments, and I felt that the process of mixing those emotions in my unique way and cleaning a soiled heart (washing) itself is meaningful. This album contains the hope that the emotions will not simply be washed away but will remain subtly, like an echo left on washed clothes.
Q. Please give a brief introduction of the title track 'Goodbyes and Sad Eyes' and tell us about its key choreography if there is any.
A. 'Goodbyes and Sad Eyes' conveys the message of shaking off sadness and becoming happier in my own way rather than sitting around after a breakup. It may sound like a supportive song for oneself. Since there's a story in every line of the lyrics as well as the melody, I recommend listeners reflect on the lyrics while listening.
The point of choreography is the gesture of blowing a kiss on the back of the hand while shouting 'perfect goodbye' and expressing tears flowing from the eyes to the lyrics 'Don't give me those sad eyes.'
Q. If you were to choose a fabric softener scent that best suits solo artist Moonbyul, what would it be? Please share your reasons.
A. I would like to choose 'a cool scent.' I think a cool scent inherently contains various atmospheres, making it the most suitable scent to convey the diverse sides that Moonbyul wants to show as a solo artist to the public.
Q. You have been running non-stop since the release of your Japanese single 'Aurora', the fan concert 'sea;nema', and now the release of your fourth mini album 'laundri'. What fuels your drive?
A. The first thing that comes to mind is my fans, 'byulddongbyeol.' Throughout this process, I've realized that my life and music are motivated by the connections with my fans. No matter where I am or what I show, they consistently support me in every moment. At the end of that thought, I remind myself, 'Since there are people who love me this much, I must never disappoint them,' and 'I must work harder to become a better person than I am now.' In the second half of this year, I am preparing various things so that I can meet my fans more often, so please look forward to it.
Q. Please say something to the fans who have been waiting for Moonbyul's comeback.
A. Thanks to my fans who have always waited for, taken care of, and given me courage over the past 10 years, I feel like my somewhat slow steps have continued to move forward. Thank you for remembering me, loving me, understanding me, and leading me. I really appreciate the bond of 'strong us.' For that reason, I miss you all the more. Thank you and I love you.
