The director of 'K-pop Demon Hunters' revealed details about the work recognized by President Lee Jae-myung.
On the afternoon of the 20th, Arirang TV held a live broadcast of 'K-pop: The Next Chapter' with President Lee Jae-myung. Attending the event were President Lee Jae-myung, director Megi Kang of the Netflix film 'K-pop Demon Hunters,' and members Jungyeon and Jihyo from the girl group TWICE, who talked about 'K-pop Demon Hunters' and the popularity of K-pop.
President Lee Jae-myung mentioned the praise for the Korean elements, such as the character Duffy, inspired by the tiger 민화, and the grim reaper costume, alongside the popularity of 'K-pop Demon Hunters,' saying, "The tiger is so cute. I also saw the grim reaper."
In response, director Megi Kang stated, "The grim reaper image with the hat and black clothing is very iconic and cool. That image has already appeared a lot in K-pop. I really wanted to do it like a real music video."
He added, "I wanted to show this color and this look with the lighting and colors. It was the first time we did that color palette in animation. We spent a lot of time on it. When we finished, our production team all applauded. I felt a lot of pride."
Duffy has reportedly gained popularity comparable to the flagships of recent Chinese character companies. In response, director Megi Kang joked, "You will see Duffy attached to bags as a key ring a lot."
'K-pop Demon Hunters' is an action fantasy animation film depicting the story of K-pop superstar girl group HuntTrix battling evil spirits behind the glamorous stages. Released on Netflix on June 20, it ranked second among Netflix's all-time films. Additionally, the OST 'Golden' has reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 main single chart, causing a phenomenon.
