Actor Choi Jung-won, who is from the group UN, has once again found himself at the center of controversy after being booked on suspicion of stalking. This time, he is under investigation for violating the 'Act on the Punishment of Stalking Crimes,' and the court has even approved an emergency protective order.
According to police on the 19th, the Central Police Station in Seoul has booked Choi Jung-won and applied for emergency protective measures to protect the victim, receiving court approval the previous day.
As a result, Choi Jung-won is subject to an order prohibiting him from approaching within 100 meters of the victim's residence and prohibiting access via electronic communication. If he violates this, he may face fines of up to 10 million won.
Choi Jung-won is reported to be accused of going to a woman's house with a weapon. However, he has claimed his innocence.
Choi Jung-won refuted through a media outlet, saying, "It is true that I underwent a police investigation, but there are parts that are not factual," and added, "This was merely an incident that occurred during the process of breaking up with my girlfriend, and it is not true that I stalked her or went with a weapon." He emphasized, "I sufficiently explained during the investigation process."
However, despite Choi Jung-won's explanation, the controversy surrounding him is not expected to subside easily. Previously, he faced criticism over allegations of an inappropriate relationship with a married woman.
The husband of the woman filed a 100 million won lawsuit against Choi Jung-won for damages in December 2022, but Choi Jung-won has flatly denied the allegations and instead filed a countersuit for defamation and threats.
Choi Jung-won debuted in 2000 with the group UN and has since been active as an actor. However, following a series of personal life controversies and the recent booking on stalking charges, it seems that his image has inevitably suffered. The police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
