'No Other Choice' Lee Byung-hun revealed his junior Son Ye-jin's on-set appearance, bringing laughter.
On the morning of 19th, a press conference for the movie 'No Other Choice' was held at the Seoul CGV Yongsan I-Park Mall. Director Park Chan-wook, lead actors Lee Byung-hun, Son Ye-jin, Park Hee-soon, Lee Sung-min, Yeom Hye-ran, Cha Seung-won, and others attended.
'No Other Choice' (directed by Park Chan-wook, provided and distributed by CJ ENM, produced by Moho Film and CJ ENM Studios) tells the story of a company worker, Mansoo (Lee Byung-hun), who felt that he had achieved everything in life, but after being abruptly fired, prepares for his own war toward reemployment to protect his wife (played by Son Ye-jin) and their two children, as well as to maintain the home he struggled to acquire. It has been selected as an invited film in the competition section of the 82nd Venice International Film Festival and as the opening film for the 30th Busan International Film Festival, while also being officially invited to the 50th Toronto International Film Festival and the 63rd New York Film Festival, garnering global interest.
On that day, Son Ye-jin confessed that after marrying Hyun-bin and giving birth to a son, she felt definitely different in terms of maternal love.
At that moment, Lee Byung-hun and Director Park Chan-wook had a separate conversation, and Son Ye-jin laughed, saying, "Why are you talking about something else while I'm talking?" The couple, who teamed up as husband and wife, Lee Byung-hun said, "What I saw on set was different. Our children, the child actors Si-won and Ri-won, are featured. One of the little kids kept asking questions on set. I kept answering the questions but found myself unable to focus on what emotion I was supposed to express for the next scene."
He continued, "But Son Ye-jin didn't answer even once. (Laughs) There were times when I said, 'Please answer if Ye-jin asks a question.' Then she replied, 'You should handle that, senior.' She said she needed to focus on her emotions. Watching her behave like that, and talking about it today, I think her heart was probably like that." This revelation made those around him burst into laughter.
Feeling wronged, Son Ye-jin explained, "The girl playing my daughter was very curious and kept asking us questions. During rehearsal, right before the shoot, she would ask us something. There were lines, and I had to pay attention to the director's detailed direction emotionally." Lee Byung-hun laughed and said, "I had the same experience," and Son Ye-jin clarified, "You didn't have many lines. I was holding the steering wheel, and I needed to think about my lines in my head," which made everyone laugh.
Meanwhile, 'No Other Choice' is set to be released in September.
