KBS 33rd generation comedians have emerged as the main characters responsible for the present and future of 'Gag Concert.'
Kim Si-woo, Na Hyun-young, Nam Hyun-seung, Seo Ah-reum, Lee Soo-kyung, Im Sun-young, Im Seul-ki, Oh Min-woo, Oh Jeong-yul, Jang Hyun-wook, Chae Hyo-ryeong, Choi Gi-moon, and Hwang Eun-bi, the 13 rookie comedians of KBS 33rd generation, took to the stage in December 2023 with the resumption of 'Gag Concert' on KBS2. Now, 20 months after the broadcast resumed, they are establishing themselves as the core of the major segments and are at the center of the generational change of 'Gag Concert.'
A representative example is 'Hwanghae 2025.' Oh Min-woo and Jang Hyun-wook transformed into a bumbling duo of con artists, seamlessly delivering a clumsy messenger scam against senior comedian Jeong Beom-kyun, generating laughter week after week. This segment, reinterpreting the legendary corner 'Hwanghae' which dealt with voice phishing, has demonstrated the strengths of both new and established combinations, proving that even low-experience comedians can take center stage.
'Simgong Police Station' could be called a gathering place for generational change. Notably, Lee Soo-kyung, who takes charge of the segment's ending, has received warm love from viewers as the drunken character Lee Ga-eul. The character Lee Ga-eul has gained enough popularity to expand into a spinoff segment called 'A Day in the Life of Ga-eul.' 'A Day in the Life of Ga-eul' portrays the younger days of Lee Ga-eul, exemplifying a rare case where a character created by a rookie expands the segment's universe.
The achievements of the 33rd generation can also be confirmed in segments like 'Chatflix' and 'The Century's Battle.' Na Hyun-young stands out as the sole female in the interactive comedy 'Chatflix,' impressing audiences by quickly digesting the random phrases written by viewers alongside senior comedians like Park Seong-gwang and Song Jun-geun.
Additionally, Oh Jeong-yul has participated in various segments such as 'Simgong Police Station,' 'Sunflower Food Truck,' 'The Century's Battle,' and 'Guest HOT House' after the revival of 'Gag Concert,' showcasing stable chemistry with both seniors and juniors. Notably, in 'The Century's Battle', he is forming an 'adversarial chemistry' with senior Shin Yun-seung, delivering short but strong laughs.
The strengths of the 33rd generation lie in their high-quality characters and stable acting skills. Even when collaborating with senior comedians, they lead the segments, adding new ideas and energy without showing any signs of nervousness.
'Gag Concert' officials noted, "Thanks to the passion and ideas of the 33rd generation comedians, 'Gag Concert' has naturally succeeded in achieving a harmonious blend of new and old, laying the foundation for long-term popularity," adding, "The 33rd generation comedians are no longer 'rookies' but are now a new pillar leading the current and future of 'Gag Concert.'"
