Lee Seung-hwan posted on his social media on the 18th, stating, "(Pathetically pathetic) those who support the coup, it is clear that my father was the chairman of the Supreme People's Assembly. He received the highest treatment in South Korea. When we lived in Daegu, we lived in a house with a swimming pool that had a fountain, and we played baseball on the lawn. Even then, I thought it was strange."
He continued, "The story about the house is true. I occasionally talk about it during performances. I attended Daegu Gyesung Elementary School, my father is from Sangju, and my mother is from Masan," introducing himself as "#A person who walked the path of conservative elite," which drew attention for its lighthearted twist on the rumors.
This is Lee Seung-hwan's response to the recent absurd rumor of 'defection' raised online. When a netizen claimed, "The Lee Seung-hwan family are spies who came down from North Korea," Lee captured the post and directly shared it on his social media as a sort of 'posting' in response.
Previously, Lee Seung-hwan was involved in rumors of being denied entry into the United States and even related to the CIA. Some far-right YouTubers created rumors about Lee Seung-hwan's denial of entry into the U.S. because he openly expressed his support for the impeachment of President Yoon Suk-yeol.
As rumors circulated that his entry visa was denied during preparations for a performance in the United States, speculation regarding 'political reasons' or 'allegations related to espionage' spread; however, Lee's side stated it was "groundless" and prepared to file a lawsuit. This rumor of defection is also emphasized as groundless speculation in a similar context.
Lee Seung-hwan was born in Busan in 1965 and spent his childhood in Daegu. Thanks to his father, who ran a toy factory, he grew up in a wealthy environment, later moved to Seoul, debuted as a singer in his twenties, and has continued to be active to this day.
