Oh Na-ra appeared as Park Hae-joon's ex-wife in 'To the First Love.' She realized the fruits of a love that could not blossom during 'The Man from Nowhere.'
In the fifth episode of tvN's Monday-Tuesday drama 'To the First Love' (directed by Yoo Je-won, written by Seong Woo-jin, planned and produced by Studio Dragon and Showrunners), aired on the 18th, heartfelt emotions regarding the existence of 'mom' were depicted. Due to Jeong Mun-hee (played by Kim Mi-kyeong), Lee Ji-an (played by Yum Jung-ah) recalled past wounds, and Lee Hyori (played by Choi Yoon-ji) felt the emotions of her mother that she had not been aware of, causing her even more pain. Meanwhile, Ryu Bo-hyun (played by Kim Min-kyu) observed these mother and daughter, and while he was lost in thoughts of his mother, Lee Yeo-jeong (played by Oh Na-ra) visited him unexpectedly, signaling a new turning point. The fifth episode recorded an average viewership rating of 4.0% and a peak of 4.6% based on households in the metropolitan area, while it had an average rating of 3.5% and a peak of 4.1% nationwide, becoming the number one show at the same time, including cable and general programming channels. (According to Nielsen Korea's paid platform)
'The Mysterious Guest' Jeong Mun-hee was not Lee Ji-an's mother. Go I-jang (played by Jeong Yeong-joo) and his wife said he was a resident living in a mansion behind the daughters' home in the woods, and Lee Hyori also mentioned that she had met him at the beach. He was the one who approached and comforted Lee Hyori while she was crying alone. However, as he acted more and more like he was her mother, Lee Ji-an firmly drew the line, saying, "My mom died over 20 years ago." After Jeong Mun-hee returned home, Lee Ji-an struggled with the memories of her mother that she had tried hard to erase.
The next day, Ryu Jeong-seok (played by Park Hae-joon) hurried to meet Lee Ji-an under the pretext of delivering an architectural design summary at the restaurant 'Nature's Recipe.' However, as soon as the two started talking, Jeong Mun-hee came to see Lee Ji-an again, and he interrupted their conversation, saying, "Mom told me to live well. Even without mom, you should be able to manage on your own." Lee Ji-an suppressed her anger and left, but an accident occurred when the flame from the gas stove in the auxiliary kitchen, which Jeong Mun-hee touched, exploded. Eventually, Lee Ji-an vented her frustrations at Jeong Mun-hee, overwhelmed by Lee Hyori's words telling her to endure.
As a result, Lee Hyori, who unexpectedly raised her voice to her mother, headed to a camping site with Ryu Bo-hyun and Yoon Tae-oh (played by Yang Kyung-won) for a change of mood. Lee Hyori opened up about what had happened at the restaurant, saying, "When I looked at my mom's gaze towards that grandmother, I thought, 'For my mom, being a mom is so difficult and painful… that pain was felt as if it was mine too.'"
Ryu Bo-hyun climbed the hill in the middle of the night, saying he found a place to go after listening to Lee Hyori's story, and under the countless stars in the night sky, he first talked about his mother. He revealed that when he turned ten, due to his parents' divorce, his mother stayed in Germany, and he ended up living alone with his father. Whenever he missed and yearned for his mother, the only thing he could do was say to himself, "My mom is an alien. Unlike the moms on Earth who always circle around their children, she is just not here because she is protecting her planet," and that was the only thing he could do while looking at the stars.
He expressed jealousy and envy towards the mother-daughter relationship of Lee Ji-an and Lee Hyori, thinking it was like 'first love,' yet he tried to focus on the incomprehensible feeling of, "Is my mother that affectionate?" Then he suddenly recalled Yoon Tae-oh, who had returned home early. He seemed like someone who had lived his life without shadows, but in reality, he had an irretrievable conflict with his family and had been turned away by his mother. Ryu Bo-hyun was the one who empathized with and understood him more than anyone else. Questioning himself with the message, 'Did we hate our mother all this time, or did we miss her?', Ryu Bo-hyun was suddenly met by his mother, Lee Yeo-jeong, which heightened the curiosity for what comes next.
Meanwhile, on the day of the broadcast, after hearing Ryu Bo-hyun's story, Lee Hyori also decided to be more honest with him. He said, "Our mom is my second mom," revealing that after his biological mother passed away in a car accident, Lee Ji-an, who was his closest friend, became like a mother to him. "That's why we need each other so desperately. We weren't just a normal pair, we were eager for each other because we had to be more mother and daughter than anyone else," his confession hinted at why these two could be so affectionate toward each other. At that moment, the two of them shared a sparkling time together, silently understanding each other's hearts like the starlight in the night sky, when suddenly Lee Hyori fainted and faced a crisis. It raises attention to whether this 'first love' mother-daughter pair can preserve the happiness they miraculously found again.
