CIX member Hyunseok showcased a character with a twist through 'Me, Myself, and I.'
Hyunseok appeared as Nam Doyoon in the Tving short original 'Me, Myself, and I,' released on the 18th.
'Me, Myself, and I' is a short-form drama in which an ordinary high school girl, Kim Mirae (played by Kim Si-eun), receives help from her future self, who returns from ten years later, to overcome obstacles and envision her future. In the drama, Hyunseok played the role of the popular boy Nam Doyoon, creating a two-sided character that appears cold and collected, yet is awkward in love.
Unbeknownst to Doyoon, the fact that this was being broadcast live on social media, he boldly confessed to Mirae and even kissed her. However, Mirae, who had already been aware of the situation from a call from her future self, firmly rejected him by saying, "I can't date you," catching Doyoon off guard. Realizing later that a group of bullies had made a bet as an April Fool's prank about him and Mirae, Doyoon lost his temper.
The school was buzzing with talk about Doyoon and Mirae, and Doyoon questioned whether it was part of Mirae's plan. In an effort to smooth over the sudden situation, Doyoon suggested to Mirae, "Since this has happened, let's pretend to be dating for a while."
In particular, Hyunseok portrayed Doyoon's 'tsundere' charm, which appears blunt yet kind, in a multidimensional way. He meticulously cared for Mirae when she collapsed due to a stomachache, creating moments of a caring boyfriend, while also engaging in tense rivalry with a love rival, simultaneously inducing both excitement and immersion among viewers.
As the story progressed to the later part of the drama, Hyunseok added a sense of immersion with a more mature and calm emotional line. Doyoon asked Mirae, who had rejected his feelings, with sad eyes whether she and Kangwoo (played by Kim Yujun) were truly just friends and instead silently embraced her, comforting her wounds and evoking deep feelings.
After resolving his feelings for Mirae, Doyoon also cleared up misunderstandings with Hyunbi (played by Choi Ji-hye), with whom he had broken up a year ago. Doyoon revealed that the reason for their breakup was actually due to Hyunbi's parents' opposition and calmly admitted, "I just gave up." This candidness left viewers feeling bittersweet.
In addition to his activities with CIX, Hyunseok is also actively involved as an 'acting idol.' He recently starred as the male lead Kim Hajun in the web drama 'The Probability of Encountering Romance on a Trip Season 3.5' and has broadened his spectrum by taking on another attractive character in 'Me, Myself, and I.'
CIX, of which Hyunseok is a member, will release their eighth EP album 'GO Chapter 1: GO Together' on Sept. 8 at 6 p.m. and will make a comeback.
