Shin So-young, the director of 'A Really Okay Person,' revealed the behind-the-scenes of casting the participants.
Recently, tvN's 'A Really Okay Person' Shin So-young shared the behind-the-scenes of casting friends of 'Ruh Bots,' including 'Ruh Bot,' during a written interview with OSEN.
The new entertainment program 'A Really Okay Person (directed by Shin So-young),' which first aired on the 3rd of last month, features celebrities as matchmakers introducing their real friends. It is a matching reality show guaranteed by stars, presenting unique entertainment that differentiates it from other dating shows by highlighting the friends of celebrities.
Eight stars, including Cho Sae-ho, Kang So-ra, Kim Nam-hee, Heo Young-ji, Lee Mi-joo, Ji Ye-eun, Kim Young-kwang, and Lee Gwan-hee, introduced their close friends and actively participated in matching them. Stars are directly endorsing eight charming friends who are likened to the 'young lady of Mapo District,' a lookalike of Kim Woo-bin, a lookalike of Seolhyun, and a friend with the characteristics of a first love from a high teen movie.
Regarding the casting behind the scenes, Shin PD noted, "We put a lot of effort into casting the participants. We searched for a long time for celebrities who are known for their good connections, or friends of those celebrities who are curious about them."
She continued, "In fact, casting itself was not easy. There were instances where a close acquaintance or friend who might be introduced suddenly got a boyfriend, and there were cases where the okay friend felt burdened about appearing on the show or had a hard time finding time due to work. Many reasons resulted in failures to cast. Also, even for candidates that met the criteria, it was necessary to check if they aligned with the vibe of the program."
She recalled an episode that occurred during the casting process. Shin PD said, "On the day when we were supposed to have a second meeting with Oh Hyun-jin, her friend Kim Nam-hee volunteered to be the manager and came to the meeting place without the production team's knowledge."
She added, "Seeing Kim Nam-hee and Oh Hyun-jin together gave me confidence. One distinctive feature that differentiates our program from existing dating shows is 'Ruh Bots.' The key is how close and familiar they are, and how much they can vouch for this friend." She remarked, "Through this process, we could gather individuals who each overflow with their unique charm."
