Director Jang Tae-yu completed 'Bon Appetit, Your Majesty' inspired by 'Culinary Class Wars.'
Set to premiere on Saturday, Aug. 23, the new tvN weekend drama 'Bon Appetit, Your Majesty' (directed by Jang Tae-yu, written by fGRD, planned by Studio Dragon, produced by Film Grida and Jung Universe) is a survival fantasy romantic comedy drama about a chef who time slips to the past and meets the worst tyrant, a king with absolute taste.
There is considerable interest in Director Jang Tae-yu's next project, following his works 'The Painter of the Wind', 'Tree with Deep Roots', 'Hong Chun-gi', and 'Night Blooming Flowers'. Regarding 'Bon Appetit, Your Majesty,' Director Jang noted, "It's a fantasy romantic comedy in which a top chef from the present accidentally time slips to the past through an ancient book, depicting how food can change people and how that change evolves into love."
As the opportunity to direct 'Bon Appetit, Your Majesty' emerged, he added, "I enjoyed watching 'Culinary Class Wars' and developed a different interest in food. It is my first drama based on cooking, and I was curious about a modern chef falling in love with a king from the past; I thought it was romantic. Even though I like food, I did not know much about ingredients and cooking methods, but I found it enjoyable to learn about them while preparing for the project."
Particularly drawn to the subject of cooking, he said, "I consulted with a star chef and a five-star hotel chef during filming and collaborated with the food styling team from 'Culinary Class Wars' to prepare the food." He also revealed, "Since it is a love story between a chef and a king, I sought advice from a professor researching royal cuisine to showcase the king's feast, striving to capture the essence of the time," making us curious about the fusion dishes created by the French chef.
Moreover, food and cooking are highlighted as the biggest charm points of 'Bon Appetit, Your Majesty,' attracting attention. Director Jang stated that food is expressed in five stages: "the concept of the menu, the chef's unique cooking methods, the completed dish, the appreciation of the person eating it, and taste evaluation," and explained, "Our drama dramatizes the meticulous process of food and cooking to pursue entertainment."
He continued, "Viewers will enjoy discovering what cooking and food mean as we unfold the world of a modern French chef's cooking and the world of taste evaluation shown by a king with absolute taste through the drama. I hope viewers feel a craving while watching the drama, thinking, 'I really want to eat that food.'"
Finally, Director Jang Tae-yu cited having a relaxed and generous mind as a point to enjoy 'Bon Appetit, Your Majesty' more. He said, "If you sit in front of the TV with a relaxed mind during the weekend evening, thinking, 'I need to take a break today,' and tune in to 'Bon Appetit, Your Majesty,' it seems like it will be a very enjoyable time," already raising expectations for the first broadcast.
The new tvN weekend drama 'Bon Appetit, Your Majesty,' which has piqued interest with behind-the-scenes stories directly shared by Director Jang Tae-yu, will premiere at 9:10 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23.
