The group CORTIS caught attention with its unique choreography.
On the afternoon of 18th, a debut showcase for the new boy group CORTIS (CORTIS) from Big Hit Music was held at Blue Square SOL Travel Hall in Yongsan, Seoul.
CORTIS (Martin, James, Juhun, Seonghyeon, Geonho) is a new boy group introduced by Big Hit Music, known as the 'house of boy groups,' which also includes BTS and TOMORROW X TOGETHER, after a six-year wait, and global fans are focused on the launch of this new act after TOMORROW X TOGETHER in 2019.
The group's name 'CORTIS' is made by irregularly taking six letters from 'COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES' and means 'to think freely outside the standards and rules set by the world.' The members plan to leave another footprint in the music industry with their fresh charm and differentiated sensibility, just like their team name.
On this day, the members unveiled their debut song 'What You Want' stage along with its music video, featuring 11 treadmills on stage and 35 treadmills in the music video.
The members spoke about their performance on the 11 and 35 treadmills. James said, 'Honestly, I was on the treadmill every day because of the choreography. I felt dizzy and took motion sickness medicine while working on the choreography. The members quickly adjusted and are enjoying riding it.'
Geonho noted, 'We started with five treadmills, but now it's been completed with 11. I wanted to make the performance film look cool, so I set up 35 treadmills in the American desert and danced.' Seonghyeon added, 'By the end of the shoot, my mouth was full of sand. Dancing in the desert while sweating made me feel really free.'
The music video also contains plenty of the members' ideas. Martin mentioned, 'All five tracks that will be included in our album are filled with our ideas. We put a lot of effort into everything from the scorching desert to the cold snowy mountains.' James expressed, 'During our trainee days, we had planned and shot something ourselves. The company was pleased with it and suggested shooting on a large scale in New Zealand, which made us very happy.'
Juhun also recalled, 'We had several production meetings with the director, and each time we worked hard for about two hours.' Martin explained communal creation by saying, 'We have many songs that we created ourselves, but I wondered why we didn't have videos we filmed ourselves, which led us to attempt this, and since then, we have continued to try it.'
Furthermore, Seonghyeon emphasized, 'If I had to describe CORTIS's way of working in one sentence, it would be 'to put our heads together.' In the beginning, we worked separately, but the songs didn't come out well. So we worked together as five, and it resulted in a satisfying product, which gave us confidence in team creation from that point on.'
Meanwhile, the title track 'What You Want' from CORTIS's debut album 'COLOR OUTSIDE THE LINES' will be released today (18th) at 6 p.m.
