(Following interview ①) Producer and singer-songwriter Vince shared insights about working with G-Dragon, who featured on his new song "CHA CHA CHA."
On the 14th, a round interview commemorating producer and singer-songwriter Vince's comeback was held at a café in Yongsan District, Seoul.
Vince's new song "CHA CHA CHA" features G-Dragon providing support. When asked about the process of working with G-Dragon, Vince said, "It went surprisingly smoothly. G-Dragon often visited The Black Label while working on Big Bang's and his own albums after his military service. While working together, I casually asked the producer who created 'CHA CHA CHA' with me, 'Do you mind featuring once?'"
He continued, "After listening to the song, G-Dragon casually asked, 'Do you want to become a star?' I replied, 'Yes, I want to become a star. Please help me,' and so we proceeded. The reason it took a long time to complete the song was that there were many changes in tempo, key, and arrangement. G-Dragon's part also has 3 to 4 versions. I made many requests, like, 'The tempo has changed this time' and 'The key has changed,' but he never showed any signs of dislike and did a great job, for which I am grateful."
Notably, the release date of "CHA CHA CHA" on August 18 also happens to be G-Dragon's birthday. Coincidentally, Vince, who will be presenting a new song featuring G-Dragon on his birthday, revealed, "I really didn't intend for this."
He mentioned, "I wanted to release it in summer, and it had to be this year. However, there are so many projects coming out of The Black Label that as I tried to time it well, this was the only day available. I jokingly mentioned before that it could come out on his birthday, but it became a reality, which made me a bit embarrassed. Still, since a song featuring G-Dragon's voice will be released on his birthday, I think his fans will also be pleased."
When asked if there were other artists he considered for featuring besides G-Dragon, Vince said, "I was lucky that G-Dragon was the first and only option. The work proceeded smoothly. G-Dragon has no specific requests. He usually makes the music himself and writes the lyrics. While I participated in directing the recording as a producer, it felt like he was directing himself. In the process of creating his part, I felt like I was just observing and learning from him. In a way, during the process of completing the song, G-Dragon even helped me by suggesting, 'How about changing this part to this?' and 'How about singing it this way?'"
In particular, Vince expressed, "I feel a sense of responsibility to ensure that things go well since G-Dragon is helping me." When asked about G-Dragon's reaction after listening to the final version, he said, "There wasn't any feedback like that, but seeing that he fulfilled all the requests regarding the song, it seems he likes it, so I'm looking forward to it," adding, "I'm also preparing content with G-Dragon, but since he is very busy, I think it needs to be prepared over time."
Vince has produced many songs for Taeyang as a producer. However, when asked why he chose G-Dragon for featuring instead of Taeyang, he said, "Why didn't I do anything with Taeyang? In fact, because we worked together too much, I guess I didn't think about it. If Taeyang says he will feature, I also have a desire to prepare something in deep R&B," anticipating the next collaboration. (To be continued in interview ③.)
