The group Red Velvet member Joy (affiliated with SME) is releasing her first mini album 'From JOY, with Love' today (18th).
Joy's first mini album 'From JOY, with Love' will be released today at 6 p.m. through various music sites, and the music video for the title track 'Love Splash!' will also be available on the YouTube SMTOWN channel at the same time.
This album consists of a total of six songs, including the refreshing pop dance track 'Love Splash!', and features a variety of love stories, showcasing Joy's unique musical world.
Additionally, Joy will hold a countdown live on YouTube and TikTok Red Velvet channels starting at 5 p.m. today to celebrate her comeback with fans worldwide.
The following is a Q&A regarding Joy's first mini album 'From JOY, with Love.'
Q. After about four years since the special album, you've released your first mini album. What are your thoughts?
It felt vague and difficult to release an album that contains my feelings, but thanks to the wonderful people around me, I am really grateful these days that it is finally coming out into the world. Since this album is prepared with my best effort, I hope many people will listen to it and love it.
Q. Since this is your first mini album, you probably put a lot of love into it. What was the most important aspect you focused on while preparing this album?
In this album, I focused a lot on what I want to say. To find the answer to that question, I had to keep asking myself, and I wanted to capture the greatness and preciousness of love that I felt during the process of overcoming difficult moments. The biggest challenge was to express the broad and profound theme of love in a way that isn't too difficult. Additionally, I paid much attention to incorporating my personality into the music and visuals.
Q. Please introduce the title track 'Love Splash!' Is there a specific reason why you chose it as the title track?
The title track 'Love Splash!' is a song that captures the innocent and exciting feelings of falling in love for the first time, expressed through a heartbeat-like beat, beautiful lyrics, and melody. The reason I chose it as the title track is that it was the song that best depicted the stage and music video, and most importantly, I felt confident that I could well express the lovely melody with my voice. I also thought it was the mood that could most easily be associated with the theme of love, which is why I decided to make it the title track.
Q. You filmed a total of four album jacket concepts with the theme of love. Is there a concept or outfit that stands out in your memory?
'Friendship Love' stands out the most to me. If you ask me about 'Friendship Love,' I can say without hesitation that it refers to Red Velvet and the fandom nickname 'ReVeluv.' So, during the shoot, I intentionally had a customized uniform made that reminds people of Red Velvet. It was nostalgic and touching during the entire shoot.
Q. What are the highlights of the music video for the title track 'Love Splash!' and if there's a memorable episode from the shoot?
The highlights of the 'Love Splash!' music video are the analog yet vintage color tones, the kitschy and pretty outfits and props, and above all, the storyline that perfectly expresses the lovely atmosphere of the song. A memorable moment was when I had to film a scene where I had a fight with the male lead model 'Yugo' right after we met, which was a bit embarrassing, but I felt good that he was open to my suggestions, so we had a smooth shoot.
Q. Aside from the title track, which track from the album would you recommend?
'Unwritten Page' is a song that contains the most important message about love that I believe in. The lyrics I participated in writing reflect a time when I couldn't encourage or take care of myself, and I wanted to give a message of comfort and support that I would want to tell my past self now that I am an adult. At the same time, it is a message I want to convey to the many youths who may be struggling now. I hope many people find little comfort in their daily lives through this song.
Q. You participated in writing the lyrics for the album tracks. In particular, 'Get Up And Dance' is your solo lyric work. How was the process, and were there specific points in the lyrics you focused on?
As soon as I heard the song, I imagined two people drawn together by fate passionately in love. Rather than just being fun, I wanted to capture a certain alluring tension in the lyrics, which made me think a lot. Especially for the verses of the first and second sections, I worked hard to give a feel that resembles an exhilarating romance novel while maintaining the rhymes of the lyrics.
Q. Recently, what has Joy been 'sinking into'?
These days, I feel like I'm thinking about the album 'From JOY, with Love' 24 hours a day. I hope many people fall in love with my first mini album just like I have!
Q. You've recently received a lot of love through 'Home Alone,' but you're approaching your solo comeback. What are your future activity plans and goals?
I always want to engage in activities that convey my inner sincerity and honesty. For the time being, I will devote all my effort to presenting this newly created album to the world! If I have a goal I want to achieve, it is for as many people as possible to listen to my album!
Q. Lastly, please say a few words to fans around the world who have been waiting for Joy's comeback.
My lovely fans, my long-awaited first mini album is finally here!! Because ReVeluvs have anticipated and provided me with so much love, it has been able to come into the world!! I will be a person who repays you with even greater love than what you have given me!! I am always grateful and love you.
