Former S.E.S member Shu (real name Yoo Soo-young) directly addressed divorce rumors surrounding her relationship with her husband Lim Hyo-seong, capturing fans' attention, while also affecting the production team.
Earlier, on 15th, a video titled "Shu is back! (Why did she return after 8 years?)" was released on the YouTube channel 'Ingan That's Shu.' At the end of the video, Shu and Lim Hyo-seong appeared together, discussing the past rumors of discord, their separation, and divorce in an honest manner.
Shu asked, "The word couple is really burdensome. Do you think we are a couple?" to which Lim Hyo-seong replied, "Four years of marriage, 11 years of friendship. You're a man," giving a cryptic response. Shu added, "I think of you as a friend, so we hardly ever fight," while Lim Hyo-seong revealed a realistic perspective saying, "Right, I try not to fight. Even if you keep walking into it."
However, during the video, a scene emerged where Shu suddenly asked, "Don't you have a decent girlfriend these days?" startling both the viewers and Lim Hyo-seong. Lim Hyo-seong expressed his disbelief by saying, "I think you're crazy. Are you a psycho?" and Shu quipped, "Isn't it something I can ask? How nice it would be, in an American style." As the controversy grew, that scene was deleted in subsequent editing.
Earlier, during their separation, Lim Hyo-seong had revealed that he helped Shu pay off her several hundred million won gambling debts. He shared, "After my retirement as a player, my income wasn't great. I thought about it for a day and borrowed 280 million won from friends," showcasing that their relationship was not simply one of discord.
However, the sudden mention of a girlfriend from a couple who are not divorced alarmed many fans as well. Regarding the latest video, fans expressed concerns, saying, "Every word can be misunderstood, so I hope the production team edits carefully," and "Production team, please think two, three, four times about how it will be perceived. It's important that your editing doesn't lead to further misunderstandings. I'm worried." At the same time, messages of support were also shared, such as, "Shu, it must not have been easy for you to come out and speak honestly, thank you," "It's nice to see a singer I liked during my school days like this," and "I support your comeback, Shu."
Shu and Lim Hyo-seong married in 2010 and have one son and two daughters. In 2018, Shu was sentenced to six months in prison and two years of probation for habitual gambling charges, but she began her comeback as a gambling prevention ambassador in 2022.
