Yoo Seung-jun debuted as a singer in 1997 but became embroiled in controversy over avoiding military service after obtaining U.S. citizenship following a performance trip in 2002, losing his Korean nationality. He has been banned from re-entering South Korea for 23 years, and although he has won two lawsuits against the denial of his visa issuance, he is currently undergoing a third lawsuit for the same issue.
In the midst of repeated denials of Yoo Seung-jun's visa issuance, some fans recently requested a special pardon from President Lee Jae-myung on Liberation Day on behalf of Yoo Seung-jun. In response, Yoo Seung-jun expressed discomfort, stating, "I have never wanted a pardon, and I don't even know the source of the statement submitted. I wanted to enter the country for the restoration of my honor. It's very regrettable to be tangled in such an issue."
