Actor Kim Yohan deeply portrayed the growing pains of a shaky youth.
In the 7th episode of The Winning Try, which aired on SBS on the 15th, Kim Yohan took on the role of the rugby team's ace, Yoon Seong-jun, showing a more resilient side after overcoming loneliness and wounds.
On this day, Yoon Seong-jun warmly welcomed his mother, who came to see him before the President's Cup match. However, his mother delivered the news that she wouldn't be able to watch Seong-jun's game, as his twin brother Seok-jun is currently active as a junior national soccer player in Spain. His mother then suggested to Seong-jun, "How about studying to be an agent in Spain? You never know how much longer you can play rugby," which struck hard. Seong-jun's wounded appearance evoked sympathy.
Feeling awakened by his mother's words, he burst out, "What you're saying is that I should just be a sidekick to Yoon Seok-jun, right?" Still, he asserted, "I will continue to play rugby, and I will attend college for rugby," hinting at a deep narrative of proving his existence through rugby.
Although Seong-jun felt hurt and frustrated by his family, he unexpectedly received comfort from Seo Woo-jin (played by Park Jung-yeon), whom he encountered at just the right time. With Woo-jin's playful encouragement, Seong-jun showed his bright 'tsundere' charm. In particular, Seong-jun smiled in response to Woo-jin's support, demonstrating a relationship that provided positive influences for each other, beyond a pure crush, heightening viewer engagement.
Fully immersed in the role of Seong-jun, Kim Yohan skillfully conveyed the complex emotions of feeling the pressure of family expectations through delicate expressions and gestures. He subtly expressed the inner pain that was not outwardly visible, as well as his burning determination, and convincingly portrayed the moments that pushed Seong-jun to fiercely pursue rugby. Kim Yohan has received praise for vividly portraying Yoon Seong-jun himself with his growing performance in each episode, leaving fans eager to see what he will show in the future.
Meanwhile, The Winning Try, featuring Kim Yohan, airs every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 p.m. on SBS.
