The 'star PD' leading Korea's entertainment industry, Kim Tae-ho, and Na Young-seok sat at the same table. From the two who mentioned their hits like 'Infinite Challenge' and 'Three Meals a Day', one could sense their honest attitude and feelings from that time.
On the 15th, a video titled 'Summit of Two Giants of Korea's Entertainment Industry' was released on the YouTube channel 'Channel 15ya'.
In the video, Kim Tae-ho and Na Young-seok shared various stories. First, Na Young-seok said, "I happened to end up in this profession, and to be honest, it wasn't because of humility. I wouldn't say I lacked talent, but I think I was definitely supported by luck that was much bigger than talent." Kim Tae-ho agreed, stating, "We benefited from the advantages that the times gave us."
In this, Na Young-seok said, "Isn't it said that it matched up? That's why we made it this far; it's not just because of my abilities, so I'm really cautious as I've gotten older," and noted, "In fact, about 10 years ago, I was a bit cocky."
Na Young-seok, who was directing 'Three Meals a Day' at the time, revealed, "Back then, I thought the world revolved the way I wanted it to. Since then, I've come to understand more and more," which drew laughter.
In response, Kim Tae-ho noted, "I can say that I was cocky until I left MBC. After leaving, it became real," adding, "At that time, I was an MBC employee and so were my juniors, so I thought, 'We make a lot of production money, so we can spend more,' and 'We do a lot of product placements, so we can spend even more on production.' Now, the company, which started with just 10 people, has grown, and as more programs are added, I realize that if my wrong judgment leads to controversy, it impacts the whole company, so that has made me more humble."
While Na Young-seok candidly spoke about his past arrogance, Kim Tae-ho revealed the honest reasons behind taking on 'Infinite Challenge', capturing attention.
Kim Tae-ho recalled, "At that time, I was facing a huge challenge on 'Weekly Night', with only one director and one assistant director, and the assistant director did all the editing. One day, when I was suffering from a severe migraine and went to the emergency room, they told me it was meningitis. Even after spinal tap, I thought I couldn't be hospitalized due to editing, so I ended up limping out even after being transported to the hospital following a car accident because I had to edit."
Kim Tae-ho said, "I was hospitalized for (meningitis) and thought that I would try it only until next year when I'm 31. If it didn't work out, I wanted to change jobs. I thought I should do it for at least five years. That's when I met 'Infinite Challenge'." He added, "Actually, I entered that program to get Yoo Jae-suk's phone number. There are less than 200 entertainment PDs in Korea, and Yoo Jae-suk only does 4-5 shows a week, so I thought, 'What methods do I need to use to get in there?' I thought if I joined 'Infinite Challenge' for a semester, I might be able to propose something. Originally, it was a program that was going to be canceled, but thanks to 'Imagination Expedition', an opportunity came to me. I was supposed to go to 'Show! Music Core', but ultimately I received some advantages from the times."
