Four years have passed since actress Kim Min-kyung, who left a deep impression in works such as "Hur Jun," "Moon Embracing the Sun," and "The Flower in Prison," passed away.
Kim Min-kyung died on Aug. 16, 2021, at the age of 61.
The cause of death was not disclosed. Following the sudden news, her agency announced a day later, on Aug. 17, that "Kim Min-kyung died the previous day."
Born in 1960, Kim Min-kyung began her acting career in 1971 as a member of the Shin-hyup Troupe. She gained attention by winning the Rookie Award at the Korea Theater Festival in 1981 and was loved for her various roles in theater, film, and drama over her more than 40-year career.
In particular, Kim Min-kyung touched hearts with her maternal roles, portraying the mother of Goni in the film "Tazza," the mother of Seoyoung in the drama "My Daughter Seoyoung," and the mother of Sujeong in "Mouse." Even during her battle with cancer, she appeared in the films "Little Princess," "The Inhabitant," and the drama "When the Camellia Blooms."
The entertainment industry was shocked by the sudden news of Kim Min-kyung's passing. Kim Ha-young said, "Although it was a short time, I am so grateful to have worked with you as mother and daughter in the play 'Bond.' Thanks to your always warm encouragement that I could do well, I feel like I was able to take a step into a new challenge."
Director Yoon Seo-jin mourned, "Kim Min-kyung always waited for us and treated us like her own children. So I still think of her often. It's still hard to believe she has passed away."
