Professor Yoon Moo-boo, an emeritus professor in the Department of Biology at Kyunghee University, known as the 'Bird Doctor,' has passed away.
According to family members on the 15th, Professor Yoon died at 12:01 a.m. on this day at Kyunghee Medical Center. He was 84 years old.
Professor Yoon suffered a stroke in 2006 but successfully rehabilitated; however, he relapsed in June and continued to fight illness at Kyunghee Medical Center.
Born in Jangseungpo-eup, Tongyeong, South Gyeongsang Province, Professor Yoon attended Kyunghee University's Department of Biology and graduate school. He taught at Kyunghee University from 1979 to 2006 and was an emeritus professor in the Department of Biology from 2006 to 2014.
In addition, the deceased served as a director of the Korean Zoological Society in 1990, a director of the Ecological Society of Korea in 1993, an advisory member of the Korea National Park Service in 1993, an advisory member of the Han River Management Office from 1994 to 2001, a specialist in the Ministry of Culture and Sports' Cultural Heritage Committee from 1994 to 1995, an advisory member of the National Park Advisory Committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs from 1994 to 2001, an advisory member of the Environmental Conservation Advisory Committee of the city of Seoul from 1994 to 2001, and served as a United Nations Peace Messenger in 2001.
Professor Yoon frequently appeared on entertainment programs, including as a commissioner for KBS's 'Quiz Exploration: The Mysterious World.' He provided easy-to-understand information about bird feeding habits and reproduction on air, endearing himself as the 'Bird Doctor' and also appeared in various advertisements.
Survived by his wife, one son, one daughter, a daughter-in-law, and a son-in-law. The funeral hall is set up in room 203 of the Kyunghee Medical Center funeral home, and the funeral will be held on the 17th.
