Singer PSY performed at an event held at the National Assembly on the 14th. PSY took the stage without appearance fees at the request of Tak Hyun-min, the event planning advisor to the National Assembly chairman.
That day, PSY appeared as the last singer at the '80 Years of Liberation Eve – Korea Lives!' concert held at the National Assembly central lawn in Yeouido, Seoul, at 8:15 p.m. He wore a green shirt and a lavender tie.
Prior to this, Tak Hyun-min, the event planning advisor to the National Assembly chairman, who was in charge of the Liberation Day eve event, noted on CBS radio on the 12th, 'I called PSY for the first time in three years and asked him,' adding, 'Since PSY doesn't usually participate in other events and does not hold any other engagements during tours, after calling him, I regretted giving him unnecessary pressure.'
He continued, 'After the call, I sent a long text saying, "You don't have to take my request to heart. I'm really sorry,"' and added, '(Then) PSY immediately called back and said, "If you say that, I can't not do it."'
Tak noted, 'I promised to have grants but he said he wouldn't accept the guarantee (appearance fee), which left me at a loss,' and added, 'I was very sorry and also grateful to PSY.'
National Assembly Chairman Woo Won-sik also expressed gratitude on social media, stating, 'I am very grateful for PSY's no guarantee participation and hope for much interest from the 국민 여러분.'
In relation to this, PSY took the stage at the Liberation Day eve and stated, 'It became a topic that I did not receive a guarantee for today's performance, but that is actually a misunderstanding,' adding, 'I sacrificed my guarantee for special effects like fireworks and gunpowder. You all will be able to see a more splendid performance.'
PSY sang his popular songs like 'Champion,' 'Art is,' and 'Celebrity' that day. Besides PSY, the Liberation Day eve concert also featured artists such as Kang San-ae, Gumi, Dynamic Duo, Mad Clown, Maitre×Kim Hyung-seok, 10CM, BIBI, Ali, Crying Nut, and Paul Kim.
