Actress Song Sun-mi expressed her struggles as a single mom.
On 'Perfect Life' broadcast on the 13th, Song Sun-mi appeared as a guest and shared her health concerns.
That day, when asked about her health issues, Song Sun-mi revealed, "Recently, I had a severe pain in my heart and was worried about what it could be, so I went to the hospital for an examination. The doctor said there was nothing wrong with my heart, but that little by little, some kind of debris has started to accumulate in my blood vessels, so I was told to take medication. It's hyperlipidemia. I also have migraines. Since I was a child, I've had trouble sleeping through the night, waking up every two hours and falling back asleep, which has made me very tired."
Afterward, she shared her daily routine. Enjoying reading alone at home, Song Sun-mi explained, "When I'm feeling depressed, reading a book makes me feel better. These days, I can't sleep well at night. So, in the morning, I try to read a book or read before going to bed because I think it's good for mental health, so I try to set aside at least 30 minutes to read each day."
When asked if there have been recent stressors, she said, "I have a house, and the house next to mine is undergoing construction. The sewage line runs past that house. But during the construction, they cut the sewage line. These people are really clueless. So, that's the biggest stress for me these days."
After finishing her reading, Song Sun-mi met with a sports medicine expert and did light exercise, and she also went out to the Han River Park to do some running. She said, "I think I need to do some running. It would be nice to do it with my child. My daughter is now 11 years old, and she keeps asking me to play with her. But it's not easy for me to do that."
She continued, "Recently, I traveled with some people, and there was a 4-year-old child there. I played really well with the 4-year-old. Then my daughter said, 'Mom, just like you played with him, play with me too.' I thought about why I could play so well with him but not with my daughter, and I realized I didn't know how to play with an 11-year-old. Running with her, having dinner, going home, and falling asleep together. I hope those experiences become a part of our life. Then I think the kids will take good memories with them, and it will also strengthen them when they grow up." She expressed her heartfelt feelings for her daughter.
When asked if she often discusses parenting challenges, she replied, "Since I raise kids of similar ages, I feel like we communicate well. Since I find myself worrying about how to raise them properly, I talk a lot to people close to me."
Hearing this, Lee Seong-mi asked, "Isn't it really hard to raise kids alone? Do you have difficulties?" Song Sun-mi honestly replied, "I don't really know if it's very hard just because I'm raising them alone. I think it's all a matter of perspective."
Lee Seong-mi admired, "And your child has grown so well," and Song Sun-mi replied, "At first, when my child was small, I was a bit worried about it. And when she was 4 or 5 years old, I needed to play with her physically, but I couldn't do that. At those times, I asked my manager's younger sibling to come and play with her, and there are always ways to solve it."
She emphasized, "When I think about the generation my child will grow up in, I believe that showing my child a mother who truly loves herself and lives her life independently really helps and strengthens her. That's why I haven't lived like a victim just because I'm a single mom."
Meanwhile, Song Sun-mi married film art director Go Woo-seok in 2006 and welcomed her daughter, Ari, in 2015. However, Go Woo-seok passed away in August 2017 after being murdered by a cousin, Kwon, who tried to monopolize his grandfather's inheritance, causing shock. Kwon was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder. Song Sun-mi and her daughter filed a lawsuit against Kwon for damages, and the court ruled that Kwon must pay 1.31 billion won in damages.
In particular, after the loss of her husband, Song Sun-mi revealed her longing for him on her social account, saying, "I miss him so much, but... for him, I keep being strong and holding on." During the MBC Acting Awards the same year, when she won the Excellence Award in the daily drama category, she tearfully expressed, "There's something I want to say for my husband who is watching from the sky. I want to say that justice will surely be realized and revealed, and I want to leave such a Korea for my daughter. I love you, mom and dad. Hold on."
