(Following Interview ②) Actor Shin Seung-ho expressed his thoughts on showcasing the 'priest outfit visual' through the movie 'Only God Knows Everything.'
Shin Seung-ho conducted an interview on the morning of the 14th at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. During this meeting, he spoke with domestic reporters about the movie 'Only God Knows Everything' (directed by Baek Seung-hwan, abbreviated as 'ONGATNO') and his recent activities.
'Only God Knows Everything' is a mystery thriller film in which priest Dowoon (Shin Seung-ho), who has been ordained, listens to confessions related to his missing mother's death and unearths secrets amid the dilemma of revenge and faith. He plays the role of Dowoon, who investigates the secrets surrounding his mother's disappearance.
Regarding his appearance in the work, Shin Seung-ho said, "The director has been very grateful to me externally. A few years ago, he allowed me to connect through a work called 'Double Patty,' and since then, he has treated me not only as a director and an acting partner but also like a brother or a younger sibling at times. It's not that I call him 'brother,' but we have that close and friendly relationship. So, he did not say much.\"
He also noted, "The director is really funny, and when he said, 'You would look good in a priest outfit,' that was the best compliment." In fact, Shin Seung-ho appears in 'ONGATNO' dressed as a priest and has compared his priest outfit to those worn by actor Gang Dong-won in 'The Priests,' actor Lee Jin-wook in 'Dark Nuns,' and ASTRO member and actor Cha Eun-woo in the drama 'Island.'
Considering the competition with visually striking actors in priest outfits, did Shin Seung-ho prepare? He laughed and said, "If I am satisfied with my own standards, if there's no discomfort saying, 'Why is my body like that?' then while the external appearance is important, I believe the first priority as an actor is acting ability. So, I think I did just okay in the priest outfit.\"
"I couldn't work out every day," he humbly expressed, adding, "Coincidentally, I was participating in a before-and-after body fit challenge at the gym I go to. We did it like a small competition regarding muscle mass and body fat. It coincided with it. It had been a while, and seeing my face from the works I have appeared in over the past few years looked good, and the line was a bit visible, so I thought, 'I need to do well' as a joke."
However, regarding the comparison with Gang Dong-won, Lee Jin-wook, and Cha Eun-woo, he laughed and said, "The priest outfit is not at all comparable to those who are wonderful seniors. Just being compared to such outstanding seniors is already an honor. I think I was busy doing my best to the limit of what I could do."
Above all, Shin Seung-ho stated, "I am not actually strong. However, I know I have an image of being strong. As an actor, I believe it's important to know how one appears on camera. Of course, I think that image is not merely a negative for me but rather a strength and a disadvantage, my weapon. I have the confidence to control it. However, I thought that 'the priest' should come first before a strong 'Shin Seung-ho.' I hoped not to look like a grumpy priest," revealing his concerns while joking.
The film 'Only God Knows Everything,' starring Shin Seung-ho, will open in theaters nationwide on the 22nd.
