The group Young Posse has returned with growing pains to find their true selves.
Young Posse (Jung Sun-hye, Wi Yeon-jung, Gi Ana, Do Eun, Han Ji-eun) held a showcase to commemorate the release of their fourth EP 'Growing Pain pt.1: FREE' at YES24 Wonder Rock Hall located in Changcheon-dong, Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, starting at 2 p.m. on the 14th, where they unveiled the stage for their new song 'FREESTYLE' for the first time. On this day, Young Posse held the showcase with a 'media mini festival' concept and showcased their previous hit songs 'XXL' and 'ATE THAT,' raising the excitement for their comeback.
On this day, Wi Yeon-jung and Jung Sun-hye said, 'After completing the food trilogy with 'MACARONI CHEESE', 'XXL', and 'ATE THAT', we have returned with a new look, and we are very excited to show how much we have grown.' They added, 'There isn't much time left until the album release, and we are already thrilled thinking about performing on stage filled with exciting songs.'
'Growing Pain pt.1: FREE' is the new album Young Posse is releasing approximately five months after the release of their special album 'COLD' in March. They have creatively portrayed the growing pains experienced while searching for their true selves amid the gap between 'the world' and 'me.' Particularly, with high participation, Young Posse announces the beginning of a new chapter with an autobiographical story that fully captures their sincere thoughts and emotions.
Jung Sun-hye introduced the new album, saying, 'We have expressed our aspiration to grow greatly through the food trilogy of 'MACARONI CHEESE', 'XXL', and 'ATE THAT', and this album started with the question, 'So who are you?' It's an album that expresses the growing pains felt in a world that urges us to find our identity through Young Posse's music.'
Han Ji-eun added, 'I felt a lot of anxiety about whether the path we are on from being trainees to becoming singers is the right one. Even though I am scared of an uncertain future, we have put our determination to do what we want into the lyrics.'
Do Eun remarked, 'To be honest, I still don't know what our identity is. In the process of trying to grow to find that identity, an album on the theme of growing pains came out. I hope you will keep watching whether we will overcome these growing pains through this album or experience a different direction of growing pains.'
The title track 'FREESTYLE' captures Young Posse's declaration that they will not succumb to the perspectives or standards defined by others, expressing their intention to pursue their art as their hearts desire. Blending elements from various genres such as punk hip-hop, jazz, metal, and hip-hop, they broke genre boundaries. The song is characterized by straightforward lyrics layered over a bold beat.
Wi Yeon-jung explained about the title track 'FREESTYLE', saying, 'FREESTYLE contains the message that no matter how much the world tries to define Young Posse, we will create our own music.'
Jung Sun-hye also revealed her reasons for selecting 'FREESTYLE' as the title track, stating, 'There were various candidate songs, but it seems that the free-spirited style of Young Posse, which does not like to be confined, matches 'FREESTYLE' the best, and since it's a hip-hop track that can be enjoyed coolly in the summer, we chose it.'
In addition, 'Growing Pain pt.1: FREE' includes seven high-quality tracks, such as 'YSSR', which conveys a determination to stand confidently even in the face of sharp questions posed by the world, 'ADHD', which boldly expresses the theme of 'being myself', 'School's Out', which tells the stories of Jung Sun-hye and Do Eun, who dropped out of school due to their passion for music, 'MON3Y 8ANK', which contains honest feelings about striving for success between realistic desires and dreams, 'soju', which vividly expresses the undeniable rebelliousness and freedom of adolescence, and 'Same Shit 中 Another One', which sings about Young Posse's unique color that always walks a different path like a 'green frog' among many groups.
Young Posse has met with fans worldwide in various forms, including domestic fan concerts, a mini fan meeting in Japan, a showcase in Taipei, and a fan concert in Hong Kong, thanks to the rising popularity both domestically and internationally. They enjoy the stage with confidence and are determined to engrave Young Posse's name in the world through festivals.
Jung Sun-hye mentioned, 'After the festival we performed in LA at the beginning of our debut, we have participated in many different events, which remain cherished memories. This time, we want to hold our own concert coming back to Korea and embark on a world tour named after us.' Meanwhile, Han Ji-eun expressed her desire, saying, 'I love the festival stage. I want to perform at various festivals in Korea and the stages of 'Lollapalooza' or 'Coachella' abroad.'
Having returned with 'growing pains' to find their identity after completing the food trilogy, Young Posse is clear about the goals they want to achieve with this album. Han Ji-eun stated, 'We want to achieve long-term charting with our new song. And we want to show an encore live by reaching first place in music broadcasts.'
Gi Ana added, 'I also want to show the growth of Young Posse, who has grown a step further through this album. I want to grow and become the headliner of festivals while showing the audience the wonderful side of Young Posse.'
