On the 4th, an interview was held to commemorate the release of the debut album "DICE" of the new ASTRO unit Junijini at Fantagio's headquarters in Gangnam, Seoul. Junijini is a new unit composed of ASTRO members MJ and JinJin, combining MJ's (real name Kim Myung-jun) and JinJin's (real name Park Jin-woo) names into the unit name.
Thus, ASTRO has now had its third unit debut in 9 years, following Moonbin & Sanha, JinJin & Rocky, and Junijini. When asked how these combinations were made, JinJin said, "First of all, what our fans talk about with MJ-hyung is that he is the oldest brother but lacks seriousness and enjoys playing with me. So there is this childish image, but my decision to form a unit with MJ-hyung was that I wanted to become a 'public pick'. I think I can approach the public comfortably on stage because I feel at ease. I thought that the chemistry within ASTRO could become the main focus and create something to showcase on stage."
MJ had a similar thought. He revealed, "I always had good chemistry with Jin, and I thought that when we presented that aspect in a unit, a new color would emerge. So I thought it would be nice for the public to see us from another angle if we formed a unit. I think it came out well in our color, so I'm proud of it."
For JinJin, this is already his second unit. What has changed from before? JinJin explained, "Rocky is now a very ambitious friend, and I also am someone who likes to push boundaries. Working with Rocky, it felt like we were creating something through collaboration. In contrast, when I'm working with my hyung, he throws big ideas at me, and I feel like I'm polishing them. It felt like processing a raw stone. I was satisfied with the good raw material he provided and worked on it."
When asked what kind of "raw stone" MJ was referring to, he answered, "From the name of the unit to the character aspect, the direction of the music and choreography, I imagined a playful feeling like "Pat and Mat" and "Tom and Jerry." I think that's what Jin made happen."
When asked how the specific aspects like "Pat and Mat" and "Tom and Jerry" are expressed, JinJin stated, "The music video itself can be described as very casual. MJ-hyung gives off a juvenile vibe, reflecting reality. The plot shows us going on a trip and experiencing issues with overloading deliveries, reflecting that realistic atmosphere. We filmed by incorporating cartoonish fantasy elements, making it easy to immerse ourselves."
When asked if they argued during the process of making the music, both stated, "On the contrary, we chose music that we both liked, and every word flowed smoothly. I felt our thoughts were similar."
Meanwhile, Junijini's debut album "DICE" will be released today (13th) at 6 p.m. The debut album "DICE" contains joyful and uplifting songs that reflect Junijini's determination to enjoy each moment in their own unique color without being confined by others' standards.
