Model Lee Hyun-yi, known as a 'working mom', talked about conflicts she faced early in her marriage with her husband Hong Seong-gi.
On the 13th, a new episode titled 'The struggles of dual-income couples! The rules of a division of household labor without mutual touch, the world of couples seeing each other for the first time' was released on K.Will's YouTube channel 'Sister-in-law is K.Will'.
In 2012, at the age of 29, Lee Hyun-yi married an older partner, and she said, 'I debuted at 23, and at that time, it was the revival period for Korean fashion, so my portfolio built up significantly within a year. I took that to New York and primarily worked overseas from 24 to 28. After that, I tried to return and continue my career, but I made a bombshell declaration that I would get married. The company opposed it, and I met my husband to persuade him, but my mind was made up.'
Lee Hyun-yi added, 'I got married with the possibility of retirement in mind, but after becoming pregnant with my first child, as commercial opportunities such as maternity product advertisements came in, my career started to change.'
Especially, regarding her marriage to an ordinary person, Lee Hyun-yi stated, 'When celebrities marry each other, there is usually mutual understanding of each other's professions, so conflicts are less likely. However, when a celebrity marries someone from a different profession, there can be a lack of understanding which could lead to conflicts.'
Lee Hyun-yi continued, 'In the early days of our marriage, after finishing late-night recordings and coming home exhausted, when I said it was tough, he responded, 'What's so hard about just sitting and talking?' That conversation led us to discuss each other's feelings, and after filming 'Same Bed, Different Dreams – You Are My Destiny' together, he started to understand me better through the experience.'
When asked about sharing finances, Lee Hyun-yi replied, 'We don't combine our finances, but we are open about our individual financial statuses. My husband wanted to pursue art when he was young, but he couldn't realize his aspirations, so I think he feels a sense of satisfaction through me doing what I love.'
