Actor Ryu Jun-yeol will unavoidably be absent from the 10th anniversary team-building event of the hit drama 'Reply 1988.' This is due to filming for his new work 'Delusion.'
On the 13th, OSEN exclusively reported that the team of tvN's drama 'Reply 1988' (written by Lee Woo-jung, directed by Shin Won-ho, abbreviated as 'Reply 88') announced news of their 10th anniversary team-building event.
Many broadcasting officials noted to OSEN that the production team and cast of 'Reply 88' are planning a team-building event in early October. However, due to scheduling conflicts, it is impossible for all 'Reply 88' cast members to attend. Ryu Jun-yeol, who played Kim Jung-hwan in the series, will be unavoidably absent due to filming for his next project.
In relation to this, a representative from Ryu Jun-yeol's side said to OSEN, "Ryu Jun-yeol is currently busy filming the Netflix new project 'Delusion.' The filming is ongoing every day, making it hard to attend the 'Reply 88' team-building event."
'Reply 88' is a comic family drama that portrays the lively daily lives of five families in a neighborhood in Ssangmun-dong, Dobong-gu, Seoul, during the year 1988, known as the year of the twin eights. As the third installment of the 'Reply' series, following 'Reply 1997' and 'Reply 1994,' it first aired on November 6, 2015, and continued until January 16 of the following year with a total of 20 episodes. Notably, 'Reply 88' recorded a highest rating of 18.8% (based on Nielsen Korea paid households), marking the highest viewership rating in the 'Reply' series.
At the center of the phenomenal popularity of 'Reply 88' was the love triangle involving the female protagonist Deok-seon (played by Lee Hye-ri), who sparked the controversy 'Eunamryu or Eunamtaek' (either Ryu Jun-yeol or Choi Taek), and the male protagonist Choi Taek (played by Park Bo-gum), as well as Kim Jung-hwan (played by Ryu Jun-yeol), who received praise as the 'sub male lead.' As a result, actress Hye-ri transitioned from being known as an 'acting idol' to being recognized as the 'nation's best daughter,' while Park Bo-gum and Ryu Jun-yeol rose to the status of top actors fitting for the primary male leads.

Nevertheless, it was predicted that the attendance of all 'Reply 88' cast members would be uncertain. This was due to the fact that Ryu Jun-yeol and Hye-ri had developed into a romantic relationship through 'Reply 88' but had since parted ways. After dating for nearly eight years since the conclusion of the series, the two announced their breakup in November 2023. Additionally, Ryu Jun-yeol was in another publicly acknowledged relationship with actress Han So-hee in March of the previous year, leading to Hye-ri being dragged into the discussions.
In this context, Ryu Jun-yeol will unavoidably be absent from the 'Reply 88' team-building event due to filming for his new project. The drama 'Delusion' depicts a story in which a reclusive novelist, 'Moon-jae,' teams up with a mysterious 'delusion' that has taken everything from him to regain his life and confronts a loan shark named 'No-ja.' Ryu Jun-yeol plays the role of Moon-jae, working alongside veteran actor Sul Kyung-gu.
Hye-ri will attend. As the story of 'Reply 88' is narrated from the perspective of Deok-seon, the character she portrayed, and being the only female protagonist, it is said that she is suitable for the occasion celebrating the 10th anniversary of the series. The team-building event for 'Reply 88' is expected to be disclosed through the YouTube channel 'Shibo Ya' of the production company Egg is Coming, which includes director Shin Won-ho and writer Lee Woo-jung.
