The Netflix movie "K-Pop Demon Hunters" (abbreviated as "Kedheon")'s OST "Golden" has topped the Billboard chart, setting a new record.
On the 11th (local time), Billboard announced in a chart preview article that "Golden" has dethroned Alex Warren's "Ordinary" to claim the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100 Main Singles Chart.
As a result, "Golden" has become the first K-pop song sung by a female vocalist to reach number one and the 9th K-pop song to top the Billboard Hot 100. Among existing K-pop artists, only the popular idol group BTS and their members Jimin and Jungkook, who released solo songs, have achieved number one on the Billboard Hot 100. BTS has had six songs reach the top, with Jimin and Jungkook each having one solo song that reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100.
Additionally, it has been 24 years since a song by a girl group with three or more members topped the Billboard chart, last achieved by Destiny's Child's "Bootylicious," which included pop star Beyoncé. "Golden" is a song by the girl group Huntress from "K-Pop Demon Hunters," sung to complete a part, featuring Korean-American singers Lee Jae, Audrey Nuna, and Rei Amiga.
"Hot 100" is Billboard's main chart, combining streaming data, radio broadcast scores, and sales data in the U.S. During this collection period, "Golden" recorded 31.79 million streams, a 9% increase compared to the previous week, a radio score that also increased by 71% to 8.4 million, and sales that increased by 35% to 7,000. This indicates a widening gap in streaming data, a measure of popular appeal.
"Golden" entered the Billboard Hot 100 at number 81 at the beginning of last month, soon after "K-Pop Demon Hunters" began to create a global syndrom. Following the popularity of the work, it recorded chart reversals of 23rd, 6th, 4th, and 2nd, ultimately reaching the top spot in its seventh week.
It has also been three years since an animated film's OST topped the Billboard Hot 100, which is rare. Prior to "Golden," the soundtrack for the Disney animated film "Encanto," released in 2022, claimed the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 with the song "We Don't Talk About Bruno."
