Actor Moon Yoo-gang, the 5th cousin of actor Ha Jung-woo, will be the youngest Salieri in the play "Amadeus."
On the 12th, the production team of the play "Amadeus" revealed a glamorous casting lineup ahead of its opening in September.
The play "Amadeus" is based on the globally successful film "Amadeus," containing a passionate psychological portrayal of the ordinary court musician "Salieri" and the genius composer "Mozart." The play, which combines the stories of real-life figures with the imagination of playwright Peter Shaffer, has been adapted for the stage.
"Amadeus" has won the prestigious "Tony Awards," the most authoritative awards in the American theater and musical scene, including Best Play, in five institutional sectors. Since then, it has been reinterpreted in various formats like theater and film, receiving love that transcends time. The play "Amadeus" not only conveys emotion to the audience through its intricate depiction of the characters' psychology but also through diverse music. The performance features over 30 pieces of music, including Salieri and Mozart's compositions along with original pieces. The play "Amadeus," whose script and music harmonize beautifully, aims to provide the audience with a fresh experience on multiple levels.
The play "Amadeus," which will be the fourth production in Korea, is expected to meet the audience in a new outfit with a strong lineup in 2025. The roles of the ordinary court musician "Salieri" will be played by Park Ho-san, Kwon Yul, Kim Jae-wook, and Moon Yoo-gang. Park Ho-san has been actively working across media and stage with his distinctive character, most recently meeting the audience through the plays "Art" and "Othello." Kwon Yul, who impressed in the film "The Outlaws" and the drama "Connection," is challenging the stage for the first time since his debut, expanding his range of activities. Kim Jae-wook, who has shown new sides in every project he participates in, including the Netflix series "Dear Hongrang" and the musical "The Old Woman with the Knife," will reprise his role as Salieri, meeting the audience seven years after playing Mozart in 2018. Moon Yoo-gang, who has been active in films, dramas, and theater since starting with the play "Another Country," will portray Salieri again after two years, showcasing even deeper acting.
The roles of the genius composer Mozart, blessed by divine grace, will be played by Kim Jun-young, Choi Jung-woo, and Yeon Jun-seok. Kim Jun-young, who has received acclaim for performances in musicals such as "The Last Empress," "Chami," and "Dorian Gray," will further broaden his acting spectrum through this performance. Choi Jung-woo, who has built his skills in works like "Capone Trilogy" and "National Theater: Gangu and River," will captivate the audience with his unique charm.
The roles of Constanze Weber, Mozart's wife, will be played by Jo In and Lee Eun-jung, while the roles of Emperor Joseph of Austria will be taken by Kim Ji-wook and Kim Min-soo, and Salieri's student Katarina Cavalieri will feature Park Jin-joo. Small characters, which will add richness to the performance, are cast with Kim Ha-yeon, Yoo Hee-ji, Pyo Geun-ryul, Kang Hyun-seong, Lee Yoo-na, and Kwon Kang-min. The swings will be handled by Wi Hyun-wook and Kim Min-jin.
The play "Amadeus" will be performed from September 16 to November 23 at the Hongik University Art Center Grand Theater in Seoul.
