The soundtrack 'Golden' from the Netflix animated film K-Pop Demon Hunters (hereafter referred to as KDH) by the virtual girl group HuntRix has topped the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 main singles chart. This is the first time a K-pop female artist has achieved the number one spot on the Hot 100.
Billboard reported on the 11th (local time) that 'Golden' is the ninth song related to K-pop to conquer the Hot 100 and the first number one song sung by a female vocalist. In terms of girl groups, this is the first time in 24 years that a group with more than three female vocalists has reached the top since Destiny's Child's 'Bootylicious.'
'Golden' first entered at 81st last month, rising to 23rd, 6th, 4th, and 2nd before reaching number one in its seventh week. During the counting period (1st to 7th), it recorded 31.7 million streams (up 9% from the previous week), 8.4 million radio broadcasts (up 71%), and 7,000 sales (up 35%). On the 1st, it also topped the U.K. Official Singles Chart 'Top 100,' achieving victory on both major charts.
This song was sung by Lee Jae, a composer who is a former trainee at SM Entertainment, vocalist Audrey Nuna, and Ray Amin. All three are Korean Americans, and production involved Teddy from THEBLACKLABEL, who created hit songs for BLACKPINK and BIGBANG, along with 24.
'Golden,' a dance-pop genre song, captivated global listeners with its refreshing high notes, catchy melody, and hopeful message. Along with the movie's success, social media trends such as the 'Golden Challenge' have led to a new chapter in K-pop history.
Meanwhile, 'K-Pop Demon Hunters,' which was released on June 20, is an action fantasy animation featuring K-pop superstars Lumi, Mira, and Joy as hidden heroes protecting the world behind glamorous stages.
