Director Yeon Sang-ho's new film 'Face' raises expectations starting from vibrant scenes.
On the 12th, the production team of the film 'Face' (screenplay directed by Yeon Sang-ho, provided/produced by Wowpoint, co-provided/distributed by Plus M Entertainment) released a production interview video.
'Face' is a film depicting the story of 'Im Young-kyu', who has lost his sight but has transformed into a master craftsman in the field of engraving, and his son 'Im Dong-hwan', who unravels the mystery surrounding his mother's death, buried for 40 years. The film was shot with a capable crew of over 20 people during a two-week pre-production and 13 filming rounds, gaining attention for its new production method. Among these, a total of five chapters of 'production interview videos' that capture the passion of the director, actors, and staff toward creating a well-made work have been released, raising expectations.
The first interview titled "'The primordial Yeoniverse', the beginning of 'Face'" features Director Yeon Sang-ho stating, "This was a project conceived before the animation 'Psychics'. I thought it would be interesting to explore the irony of a character who cannot see yet does something beautiful and ugly very well. I started this project with the intention of creating it with colleagues who love movies," drawing attention to the production intent marked by new attempts.
The second interview 'The faces of Korean cinema, becoming the face of 'Face'' reveals the behind-the-scenes casting stories and character descriptions from the 'faces' of Korean cinema who are loved by the public for their solid acting skills and diverse charms, including Park Jung-min, Kwon Hae-hyo, Shin Hyun-bin, Lim Seong-jae, and Han Ji-hyun, arousing interest.
The third interview 'Special affection, shining synergy through heartfelt performances' highlights the reactions of Park Jung-min, who learned the technique of engraving despite a short preparation period, and Shin Hyun-bin, who witnessed this on set, as well as Kwon Hae-hyo, who said he wore lenses for the first time for his role as a visually impaired character, noting, "I get jealous of how he expresses every little thing." The report on Park Jung-min's impressions of working with a respected senior increases expectations for the synergy in the film, given their close friendship.
The fourth interview 'Perfect production crafted by a select few' discusses the passion of the art, props, makeup, and cinematography teams that perfectly recreated the detailed aspects of the Cheonggyecheon area from the 1970s, expressing gratitude from the actors for providing 'the conditions to perform with depth'.
Finally, the fifth interview 'The birth of a mystery never seen before' discusses the viewing points from the actors on the film 'Face', where one can experience the origins of the Yeon Sang-ho universe, along with a recommendation that it is a work resonating with the era we live in, thereby raising the anticipation of viewers awaiting the film's release in September.
