Actor Ryu Soo-young conveyed the K-food message in Toronto, Canada.
Actor Ryu Soo-young captivated local audiences with a Han-sik lecture and cooking demonstration lasting over an hour about Korean kimchi culture and side dish culture at the K-Expo held in Toronto, Canada.
The long line of over 200 meters to listen to Ryu Soo-young's lecture showcased the popularity of K-culture. The venue attracted a diverse audience, including Canadian citizens, Korean expatriates, and tourists, with some forming lines early in the morning to secure their spots, demonstrating the local high interest in K-food and K-culture.
In the lecture, Ryu Soo-young elaborated on the health value and cultural depth of Korean cuisine. He noted, "The probiotics in kimchi are stronger against stomach acid compared to regular probiotics, which increases the chances of surviving to the intestines," and introduced the fermentation science of kimchi and its effects on gut health. He added, "Even with just five side dishes, you can create 31 different flavors. The endless combinations and variations make Han-sik akin to a movie with an open ending," explaining the creativity and diversity of Korea's side dish culture. Attendees of the lecture nodded along and reportedly reacted with laughter and enthusiastic applause.
The live cooking demonstration also received great acclaim. Not stopping at a simple lecture, Ryu Soo-young personally prepared and cooked cold seafood pancakes, samhap, and bibim-guksu on stage, distributing them to local audiences. Attendees who experienced the various charms of Han-sik, such as the fragrant green onion aroma, the rich flavors of seafood, the deep taste of samhap, and the sweet and sour bibim-guksu, responded with cheers and applause.
Especially as a 'K-food evangelist,' this K-Expo lecture in Canada was not merely a lecture or cooking demonstration; it was an opportunity for actor Ryu Soo-young to communicate directly with local audiences about Korean cuisine and culture as a representative of Korea, eliciting a passionate response.
