The 'chef of the tyrant' Im Yoon-a has let it all go.
The new tvN weekend drama 'Bon Appetit, Your Majesty' (directed by Jang Tae-yu, written by fGRD, planned by Studio Dragon, produced by Film Greeda, Jung Universe), which will premiere on Aug. 23 (Saturday), is a survival fantasy romantic comedy drama where a chef time slips back to the best moment and meets a tyrant who is the worst and possesses an absolute sense of taste.
Im Yoon-a, who is set to transform into the French chef Yeon Ji-young, noted, "I have always wanted to work with director Jang Tae-yu, and I am really happy to finally collaborate on 'Bon Appetit, Your Majesty.'" She explained her reason for choosing 'Bon Appetit, Your Majesty' by saying, "I was attracted to the theme of cooking and wanted to challenge myself because I found the character Yeon Ji-young, who is a chef, to be appealing."
She also pointed out the character's biggest charms as "charisma, wisdom, and confidence," adding, "Yeon Ji-young's wise, confident, and charismatic demeanor, where she always expresses her opinions clearly and walks her own path rather than being led, left a deep impression on me."
Yeon Ji-young (played by Im Yoon-a), who captivates with her confident and charming charisma, is an individual with exceptional cooking skills, having won a French cooking competition in the drama. To fully embody the role of a chef, Im Yoon-a stated, "I spent about three months meeting actual chefs to learn everything from handling kitchen tools to detailed cooking processes, practicing various dishes while preparing for the character."
"During that process, I learned the technique of flambé (a French cooking technique that involves adding alcohol to a dish or sauce and igniting it over high heat), which I think I demonstrated the most. Thanks to that, I gained more confidence while cooking, and I thought, 'I can do things like this,' and it was the most wonderful performance," she said, increasing curiosity about Yeon Ji-young's cooking performance.
Furthermore, to capture the narrative of a character who time slips from the present to the past, she explained that she added detailed elements to styling and speech. She shared, "I paid attention to wearing items used in modern times, such as sunglasses, scarves, and earrings, to clearly show the differences between the present and the past. I also tried to maintain a confident, cheerful, and modern atmosphere in my speech and acting tone," confessing her points, and anticipation builds for the completed character of Yeon Ji-young that Im Yoon-a will bring to life.
Lastly, she stated a viewing point that can make 'Bon Appetit, Your Majesty' even more enjoyable: "If you closely follow the delicate visual beauty of the cooking scenes and the emotions between the characters, you can enjoy it more immersively. I hope for much anticipation for 'Bon Appetit, Your Majesty,' which will finally premiere on the 23rd (Saturday)."
