In 'Walking On Thin Ice', Lee Young-ae and Kim Young-kwang embark on a dangerous plot at the boundary of good and evil.
The new KBS 2TV Saturday-Sunday mini-series 'Walking On Thin Ice' (directed by Song Hyun-wook, written by Jeon Young-shin), set to premiere in September, depicts the perilous and desperate partnership formed by a parent, Kang Eun-soo, who wishes to protect her family, and Lee Kyung, a teacher with two faces, after they accidentally acquire a bag of drugs.
In the drama, Lee Young-ae portrays the ordinary housewife 'Kang Eun-soo' who is maintaining a happy family, while Kim Young-kwang plays 'Lee Kyung', a two-faced after-school art instructor for Eun-soo's daughter 'Soo-a' and a drug dealer operating under the alias 'James' at a club. The two form an unexpected business partnership triggered by a discovered bag, leading to a stark turning point that disrupts their ordinary lives.
The stills released today (11th) show the changing relationship between Eun-soo and Lee Kyung, drawing attention. First, a serious meeting between a parent and teacher is captured in the art room, where Eun-soo appears to be sitting with a stiff expression, seemingly shocked by unexpected news. Lee Kyung discusses Eun-soo's daughter, Park Soo-a (played by Kim Si-ah), with a calm demeanor. A strange tension contrasts with the warm sunlight outside the window.
However, in the following stills, the two people's relationship is completely reversed, piquing curiosity. Lee Kyung, wearing a leather jacket and horn-rimmed glasses, exudes a sharp and cold aura, while Eun-soo, with a gaunt face, shows signs of anxiety as they face each other in an unfamiliar space. The narrative of the two, transformed from a parent and teacher relationship to dangerous partners, is intriguing.
Eun-soo proposes a partnership to Lee Kyung to protect her family, but her gaze toward the paper presented by Lee Kyung is filled with fear and hesitation. It raises questions about whether she can join hands with Lee Kyung to welcome 'Walking On Thin Ice' and whether Lee Kyung, exposed by the parent, can maintain her double life until the end.
The production team noted, 'Lee Young-ae and Kim Young-kwang start off as characters from completely different worlds and gradually portray the process of intertwining their lives with dense acting chemistry,' adding, 'It will be interesting to follow how the conflicting and dilemmas experienced by Kang Eun-soo and Lee Kyung, who have completely different characteristics, clash and heal through their partnership.'
'Walking On Thin Ice' is a well-made work co-produced by director Song Hyun-wook, known for mastering various genres and detail, and writer Jeon Young-shin, celebrated for her dense realism and delicate writing skills. Featuring a strong lineup including Lee Young-ae, Kim Young-kwang, and Park Yong-woo, as well as Bae Soo-bin, Jo Yeon-hee, and Hwang Jae-yeol, it is emerging as a highly anticipated work for the second half of the year.
