The group ILLIT is heating up the local atmosphere ahead of their Japanese debut in September by releasing a pre-release track.
ILLIT (Yoon-a, Min-ju, Mo-ka, Won-hee, I-ro-ha) announced the song 'Topping,' which is included in their first Japanese single 'Toki Yo Tomare' (original title 時よ止まれ/토키 요 토마레), at midnight on the 11th through various online music sites.
'Topping' is a pop song that expresses the various emotions of a girl anticipating her first date. It humorously captures how she becomes more aware of her crush's speech and actions, and how everything around her seems to appear as hearts, adding a special situation (Topping) to her world. Additionally, the catchy lyrics 'Top Top Topping' express the feelings that peak (Top) when falling in love.
The song was partially revealed earlier as the music for a new collection advertisement of global fashion brand Lacoste Japan's sneakers, garnering positive reactions from viewers with the members' clear vocal tones and lively melodies.
Japanese popular singer-songwriter noa participated in writing and composing 'Topping.' noa, known as the original artist of the hit 'Any Angle' (全方向美少女) on short-form platforms like TikTok, drew attention early on for the collaboration with ILLIT, referred to as a 'short-form powerhouse.' He noted, 'I reflected ILLIT's cute girl sensibility and honest, bold image. I hope it becomes a song loved by many.'
ILLIT made their stage debut of 'Topping' at the fan concert '2025 ILLIT GLITTER DAY IN JAPAN' held at Pia Arena MM in Yokohama, Kanagawa Prefecture, on the 10th. They captivated the audience with their vibrant and energetic performance. Also, noa made a surprise appearance, showcasing a collaboration stage with ILLIT and elevating the excitement in the concert hall.
ILLIT's first Japanese single 'Toki Yo Tomare,' set to be released on September 1, captures moments of sparkling youth that they hope will never end. It includes the title track of the same name, 'Topping,' the Japanese version of the title track 'Do the Dance' from mini album 'bomb,' and a total of four songs, including ILLIT's first original Japanese song 'Almond Chocolate,' which was released in February and caused a stir on local charts.
In this single, ILLIT continues to appeal to global fans in their 10s and 20s by collaborating with popular artists like noa and Mulasaki Ima, and releasing limited editions and items in collaboration with the global popular character 'Care Bears.'
They will hold the second day's performance of '2025 ILLIT GLITTER DAY IN JAPAN' today (11th).
