An after special is unfolding on "Oh Eun-young Report: Marriage Hell."
Today (11th), MBC's "Oh Eun-young Report: Marriage Hell" (abbreviated Marriage Hell) will air the first of a two-part after special featuring updates on six couples and their families among the 109 couples who have appeared so far.
"Marriage Hell" has ranked highly each week in the 20-49 rating institutional sector on Monday at the same time slot, and immediately after airing it took the No. 1 spot on the streaming service Wavve, receiving warm viewer love. The production team said that after each broadcast, they received an outpouring of viewers' stories asking how the guests' daily lives had changed following Dr. Oh Eun-young's counseling, and that they plan to periodically release follow-up reports from the couples who appeared.
In the fourth after special part 1, viewers will see updates from the "no-comment couple," whose conversations were cut off because the husband observed silence whenever he came home; the "despair couple," whose family life was devastated by a husband suffering from severe alcohol use disorder that made daily life impossible; and the "K-eldest daughter family," whose eldest daughter at home had to mediate her parents' fights even after moving out.

The first couple to appear is the "no-comment couple," who appeared on the Oct. 28 episode last year, episode 96. A chatterbox wife who wanted to share daily life with her husband and a husband who treated his wife at home with no response and no interest. At the time of filming, the wife complained about her husband practicing silence at home, saying, "If even our daughter weren't here, it would be like a temple." Scenes of them calling their acquaintances to tell about their day looked like a sitcom scene, prompting bittersweet laughter from the MCs and making viewers burst out laughing.
In the past, the husband showed such extreme indifference that he would bring his wife to the emergency room in urgent situations and then immediately return home. Dr. Oh Eun-young empathized with the wife's likely hurt feelings over the husband's indifference, but she also analyzed that the wife has a somewhat impatient personality and a habit of interrupting the other person's speech. She advised giving the husband personal time and said that if the wife waits patiently and offers praise, changes will come between the couple. She also had the husband practice special training on set, urging him to respond with actions such as nodding or giving a thumbs-up if finding verbal expression difficult.
When the "no-comment couple" met again 10 months after the broadcast, the wife was seen welcoming her husband coming home from work warmly, unlike the past when they didn't even look at each other. The couple has changed to the point of having back-and-forth conversation, sharing the day's events with affectionate physical contact. Unlike before, when the husband practiced silence even at a lavish meal prepared by his wife, he now says "It's good" about the meal and gives a thumbs-up, showing a transformed attitude. He even gave a bouquet for the first time in 12 years of marriage along with a loving letter, bringing tears to his wife's eyes. The wife said she had entered heaven, not hell, and smiled happily, previewing the magically changed daily life of the "no-comment" couple.

The second couple to appear is the "despair couple," who appeared on the Feb. 10 and Feb. 17 episodes, episodes 109 and 110. Regarding the husband's alcohol use disorder that lasted more than 30 years, Dr. Oh Eun-young said at the time, "Among past guests, the alcohol problem is the most severe and the family's daily life is miserable," and conducted counseling across two episodes.
At the time of the broadcast, the wife of the despair couple had suffered for more than 37 years because of the husband's drinking. The husband pretended to drink from a trash can mistaking it for a bottle, shocking viewers and the MCs watching. Especially during the observational filming for Marriage Hell, the husband drank until just before the production team arrived and remembered little of the shoot; he was also heavily intoxicated at the pre-meeting with the production team, which led to an explosion of worried posts about the despair couple on online communities after the broadcast. Dr. Oh Eun-young took a strong stance, saying, "If the husband does not stop drinking after the broadcast, I would recommend divorce." Now, six months after the broadcast, attention is focused on whether the husband of the despair couple has quit the alcohol he drank almost every day for 37 years and returned to his family.

The third subject of the after special is the "K-eldest daughter family," who appeared on the Jan. 20 episode, episode 106. In Jan. 2025, "Oh Eun-young Report" prepared a New Year's special called "Family Hell" and conducted four weeks of family counseling. Among them, they revisit the K-eldest daughter and her family, in which the eldest daughter at home had to mediate family disputes because of a father with bipolar disorder and a mother who confided the difficulties caused by the father to their daughter. The father, who had suffered from bipolar disorder for a long time, collected so many items that it became difficult to operate the house and the restaurant run by the couple.
At the time, the daughter said she had recently begun to see signs of the father's past severe bipolar symptoms again, which not only worsened her relationship with her mother but also shook the family's overall relationships, and she asked for Dr. Oh Eun-young's help. Dr. Oh said that while the parents' relationship is important, the stress on the daughter who mediates between them is too high and she worried about the eldest daughter's habit of biting her nails throughout the recording. When the broadcast aired, eldest daughters across the country sympathized with the hardships felt as the eldest daughter.
Couples and families who endured painful marriages for reasons such as verbal abuse, violence, inability to communicate and drinking. The first part of the after special featuring real follow-ups from couples who, after Dr. Oh Eun-young's healing report, took a step closer to marriage heaven will air tonight at 10:50 p.m. Monday.
