Comedian Kim Byeong-man spoke again regarding the controversy surrounding the decision to relinquish his adopted daughter, expressing a wish that his daughter would not be hurt.
On the 11th, an official from his agency, Sky Turtle, stated to OSEN, "We regret causing concern due to bad articles and feel deeply apologetic."
Kim Byeong-man's side revealed, "Kim Byeong-man did not hold a wedding ceremony with Seo Mo in 2010, but began cohabitation after registering their marriage and adopted the child who was 9 years old at the time as a biological child."
They added, "Subsequently, we began to live apart from 2012, and during the separation, in July 2019, a dispute arose regarding Kim Byeong-man's grants and income, leading to the start of divorce litigation, and during the divorce litigation in 2020, the first relinquishment lawsuit was initiated, followed by a second relinquishment lawsuit in 2022."
Furthermore, Kim Byeong-man's side said, "Through the third relinquishment lawsuit in November 2024, on August 8, 2025, the Seoul Family Court ruled for the relinquishment due to the welfare of the currently over 25-year-old child and the portions that do not align with each other's interests."
In addition, Kim Byeong-man's side noted, "Kim Byeong-man wants to ensure that the child adopted due to registration of marriage with Seo Mo no longer suffers any harm due to this ruling."
According to Kim Byeong-man's statement, he adopted his ex-wife's daughter, Ms. A, as a biological child upon marriage. However, following a long period of separation, he began divorce proceedings in 2019, announcing the dissolution in 2023.
During the process of the divorce news being reported, his ex-wife claimed through a media outlet that she had been habitually subjected to domestic violence by Kim Byeong-man during their marriage, stating that the case had been forwarded to the prosecution through a criminal complaint. On the contrary, Kim Byeong-man's side countered that although his ex-wife claimed habitual domestic violence in the divorce litigation, it was not accepted, and the police had forwarded the case to the prosecution with a non-indictment opinion regarding the assault allegations.
Kim Byeong-man received a non-guilty ruling from the prosecution for all charges, and following the conclusion of the divorce litigation, the remaining lawsuit was the relinquishment lawsuit concerning Kim Byeong-man and Ms. A. In this context, Ms. A filed for a confirmation of biological relationship at the Seoul Family Court, highlighting that during the period when Kim Byeong-man's marriage to his mother was maintained, he fathered two children with another woman, indicating a high possibility of being an illegitimate child.
In response, Kim Byeong-man's side clarified that the children currently with his fiancée were born after the breakdown of his marriage with his ex-wife. Following the ruling of the relinquishment lawsuit on the 8th, the court favored Kim Byeong-man, and his side previously stated that the relinquishment was granted due to recognized misconduct resulting from false accusations. However, the ruling document did not include that phrase, leading to controversy.
Additionally, Kim Byeong-man's side stated, "The expression 'recognition of misconduct due to false accusations' is understood only in that it was interpreted that harm due to false accusations was recognized alongside the relinquishment ruling, and if there was any confusion regarding this interpretation, we are regretful about that."
Meanwhile, Kim Byeong-man is set to marry his non-celebrity fiancée, who is younger than him, on September 20.
